Long term Ambien/Zolpidem use

10 days ago I quit long term 10 mg Ambien use for insomnia.
I would be interested in hearing from anyone else who is a LONG TERM (years) user.
I quit a couple of times when I first started taking Ambien. Quitting not so hard. A little ear rushing noise then over.
This time is 10 days out. Still Loud ear noise. At least has gone from rushing sound to ringing...but still irritating.
Charley horses (ordered magnesium...when it comes hope it helps).
Sleep is teen tiny bit more normal? But not yet.
Sleep is like tossing turning, long time to fall asleep. Waking up with every dream. Dreams are just crazy and vivid. Luckily no nightmares.
Biggest issue is sleep 2 hours, wake two or three hours, sleep two hours.
Wake up tired.
I just walk around drained all the time.
I quit Ambien because I felt like maybe it was making me psycho. You know forgetful, writing emails you don't remember, forgetful, anxious, flighty and, oh yes...forgetful.
I was no longer able to work. I was losing time, hearing voices etc when I wasn't even taking it! Very scary!
I assigned these issues to mental problems and depression. (Yes, went to psych. That's another story)
However, yesterday I woke up and felt I crossed a line into sanity. Now I realize just how much of this WAS Ambien!
I feel normal except for being sleepy.
I have recently read that Ambien/Zolpidem builds up in your brain.
I'm thinking this must be true.
I'm interested in hearing from similar experiences.
Need encouragement BIG TIME.
How long before I sleep normally again.
Also, did Ambien take away your ability to nap as it did for me?
Does that return? Thanks

Yes I have been there. It will take a while for your body to get used to relaxing without the sedative. Totally normal. Btw I got into soooo much trouble on ambien. Scariest drug I ever tried.

Hey there friend...welcome.  Sorry I don't have experience but thought I'd send support.  Must be very scarey for you.  I think it's a great idea getting off that drug.  Keep posting to keep your question up at the front, someone will find you.  Uber prayers of strength and peace. Hugs
