Lilly thank you so much. We have had many conversation about tramadol and he has seen what it's done to me. He barely prescribes it. He is extremely careful with pain meds. I do feel a little better today.

There are many variables to consider in trying to establish a timeline for recovery. I was prescribed several medications all addictive. Some were easier than others and took less time. One thing  I do know is that we do recover, our bodies know how to heal themselves and focusing on positive helps tremendously . Writing positive affirmations helped me. I didn't always believe them but eventually they all came true. One of my favourites was " everyday in everyway I am getting better and better". When the negative thoughts or fear came on I would tell myself " it's the drugs this is not me". I told myself when I felt the worst the harder it is just means my body is working to heal and this will pass. I am 59 years old and took the medicine as prescribed. Many doctors do not have a clue what it is like or how long the withdrawals take for some people. You have been given a wonderful opportunity to teach your Doctor husband about the "Real" world.

7 days and yes you will feel better and NO you will not always feel like *&^% but if you are an addict the want will always be in the back of your head so think about looking for some help from friends or family and if you are the group type try that it could be that last brink you need to build a strong new you..

That's very true. I just feel so miserable I can't think of anything else. I try to get out and do things which I have been doing but I just feel miserable and can't focus on anything else but how I'm feeling.

Don't get so down Readyforfreedom, I'm N.Z so our calendar's may not be in synch but this is day 6/7 +/- 1 yea?    On that assumption, the fact that you are "sleeping a ton" is a sure sign that you're getting there.  I don't think I slept a wink for at least seven days, and only 2-3 hours per night after that for at least a month when I quit (oxy 500ish mgs per day).  After that it still took awhile to come back to normal...  Anyhu's, point being not to get down about it.  It takes time for your body to heal and the process is not sped up by getting depressed...

Try to change your point of view maybe.  Sure it's easy to think "Grrrr I can't go and do the things I want to do".  But then again, maybe we're in said situation in order to teach us something that is vitally important to our life mission.

Thank you so much gnarly. Yes I'm sleeping a ton actually. I have trazadobe for night and I'm napping a lot during the day. Is this a good thing? The chlonidine makes me so tired. I take it twice daily

Hey Girl  ....well recovery is always slower then we like  tram is a tuff kick but it is doable  recovery comes in baby steps  today you have 0 energy  tomorrow you may be at 5 %  a few days later you may be at 15%  but slowly it gets better  just stick to it  are you sleeping yet???  that makes a huge difference  try protein shakes  walmart carry's a whey protein shake mix that I used it was 16 bucks for a 2lb can  just a scoop to a glass of milk  drink 2 a day  it will give you the raw protein for energy and the amino acids to help heal the brain  it is not a quick fix but rather a building block for recovery  keep posting for support  YOU CAN DO THIS.......Gnarly

Thank you all so much. VIC  thank you so much for taking the time to write to me. So you do find your true self? Is tramadol a lot worse to detox from than other drugs? My husband (doctor) says it will take a little longer due to the chemical makeup in tramadol. I think I forgot to mention I'm on an anti depressant right now as well.

Hi
You are one of the lucky ones, if you only were dependent on these and have used them for such a short time.
The longer we use the more unbalance our Brain gets. These type of drugs really whack out our brain-chemistry. The Brain Chems, Hormones, Receptors, Transmitters and so on and so forth is what takes Time to re-adjust or fire back up after we stop.
You should be coming around sooner then most, if you only used for a short time and took a small amount in each day.
For people like myself, who have used off and on for many, many, many yrs, find ourselves really having to work hard at this. The older you get, the more you used, the longer the process takes to bounce back.
The physical will bounce back but the mental part will take a bit longer.
I will have 3yrs next month and each and everyday is a new day. You will get to know yourself and how to deal with some pain or weakness (mental or just Life) in others ways. The detox is the easy part, (yes it is uncomfortable) but working on staying clean is what takes the cake.
I am not sure of your history here, but most of us needed some kind of Support, ANY Support to keep on the right track. I do wish you the best and Congratulations for taking your Life Back!!!!
Bless
Vickie

Thank you sooooo much pillguy. All the fear sets in sometimes. I know I'll be okay. I'm just laying on the couch right now. Thinking of going to take a bath and then doing my hair and makeup. Maybe a little shopping too.

It absolutely gets better but getting through the lethargy/depression stage is ugly.  That kept me in active addiction for several years.  Know that it passes.  You DO return to your previous normal.  Patience Grasshopper!

Thank you robin. I don't plan on attending aftercare as I've never abused my medication. I always took it as prescribed or less than that. My body became dependent. This has been the toughest time of my life!

I had only gone through it once too, and I know how scared you feel.   Trust everyone, this too shall pass.

Are you going to any type of aftercare?  Going to meetings really helps you to see that what you're feeling is normal and that you DO get over it.   All those people can't be wrong!

At day 5, (which is AWESOME, by the way--congrats!!!) you are in the thick of it.  A week from now, you're going to feel a whole lot different.

Hang in there my friend...you're doing fanstastic.

Hugs,
-Robin

Thank you all. This is very helpful. Im just very scared of a lot of things right now. Please keep in mind this is my first time so i have absolutely no idea what to expect. It sounds like a lot of people on here have done this more than once. Well i haven't. I'm just extremely scared.

Believe me this is temporary. Also about you feeling like you need to get things done. Pick the three things that are most visible and take the least amount of effort and get those done. You will have a good sense of accomplishment and make you feel better. Try it.!!

It's only Day 5. No one bounces right back after using daily for over a year but you will begin to feel better soon. Don't over think the process and just keep moving forward.

I feel a gazillion times better than I did.  I'm at 17 days today and the first 5 or so were the toughest physically. Please get up and move. Seriously that has made all the difference for me. It seems so impossible but once I got going it became easier and now I am walking about three miles a day.  Briskly and it is what gives me my energy now. Just do it. Don't think about it.  You will feel normal... Or more normal than you do now.

You will feel like yourself again....d@mn those words time and patience.  You will NOT always feel like this.  I promise.  It takes a bit of time and you are doing great - even if you don't feel like it.  Distract that brain.  Music and funny movies when you feel this way. Take an Epsom salt bath...tke a walk....anything to distract. I read your other thread.  My DH and I have both done the Advocare 24 day challenge and I don't honestly think now is the time for you to start the challenge.  Maybe wait until you are further out in recovery.  It requires a lot of thinking, food work prep, and balance.  It might be great for you a few weeks or a month out.  Your choice, definitely, I'm just giving you my opinion from experience.
You are doing awesome.  Keep up the great work!  One step at a time!
Prayers out to you!
