Low Hormones After Opiates

I read a few posts where folks had their hormones checked and the results were lower than normal so their doc put them on testosterone.  I'm 47 so believed my lower levels were normal (did get tested) but getting a boost at this age would be great...did the hormones really help? If they did, what were some of the positive things, negs of taking the hormones?

I try not to think about possible damage from opiates and the combined Tylenol after years of use...only looking towards the future.

Thanks

I know how you feel. Some days I didn't have the energy or motivation to get out of bed. After trying numerous anti-depressants with no results, I started testosterone injections 6-8-09. Its too early to tell, but I was desparate. Let me know your results. THX, Rando88

Hey---Thanks for the info. I called a pharmacy, got a doctor and made an appt. for July 9th. That gives me 1 month to taper off my vicoprofen. I'm so excited about finally finding a potential answer to the overwhelming fatigue. I've heard alot of women rave about getting hormone balance with bioidenticals and feeling better than they have in years. We'll have to compare notes. Thanks again.

lol...I know you're a girl until you start growing facial hair jk.  Some of the guys I train with are on the juice and have been for a number of years but that wasn't the way I wanted to go.  The Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) may involve test and that would be cool with me as long as the doc is checking my blood levels, etc.

I haven't been this excited about something .... well, since I quit the meds :-).  Anything that can make you feel 10-20 years younger is OK in my book.

My pain dr put me on a low dose of testosterone...it is given into the muscle each week with a syringe...my nrg has quadrupled...definitely think it has affected cravings cos i do not crave..body fat is turning to muscle//not like a weight lifter or anything but nice...sex drive has quadrupled and my boyfriend loves it,,,he says i have fibromyalgia and fatigue is a big part of any chronic pain problem...it took about a month to really notice the nrg increase....i have had no funky side effects so chances r i was low anyway//and i am a girl btw

Proofread update...once you locate a pharmacy, Ask them which doctors use them for biodentical hormone treatment. Locate the best one for you.

I can relate to what you're saying about the fatigue, etc. I knew it was hormone related. I do believe that you can find someone in your area. This is how I did it. I got into the phone book / yellow pages and looked up the pharmacies in my area. You especially want one that is a "Compounding Pharmacy"...they mix to your specifics, which is what biodentical hormone replacement therapy does. If you don't see one that lists that option just start asking which ones do. After you locate your pharmacy, tell them which Dr's use them for the biodentical hormone treatments and they will tell you. Ask for the best Dr. and there ya go. I was surprised to find that I have a Dr. in my area that many people come to see. She must be good...can't wait to find out in July. I don't know where you're located, but I do know that this is really catching on, so I'm sure you'll have someone in your area. I hope you'll let me know. Good luck to you and God Bless.

I would love to know how you found your bioidentical dr.--- perhaps a website I could go to. I'm coming off 6 years vicoprofen use and went into surgically induced menopause 10 years ago. When I'm clean I would love to have hormones balanced as the fatigue was one reason I started to abuse the meds. Do not want to go that route again.

I'm not sure how this affects the guys and your testosterone levels, but I know I'm going thru changes. I started feeling depressed and lethargic about 3 years ago and I was prescribed hydrocodone for what i thought was a broken rib. Anyway, I noticed that the depression lifted and I had more energy. I do believe there is a hormone connection in some way. I just stopped the vicoden last Thursday and I'm dealing with it day by day. I have made an appointment with a biodentical hormone replacement therapy Dr. in July. Until then I want to be clean when I go in for my bloodwork, which checks the hormone levels. I'm curious to see if the treatments will correct some of my issues. Good luck to you, and I'm sure there are similar options for you. Hope this helps...
