Major insomnia from cold turkey withdrawals of Oxycodone.

A friend of mine went cold turkey off Oxycodone, and is suffering from major insomnia. This would be day 10. Is there anything I could do for them naturally? All the other w/d's  that you see for this drug, they have been through  but this is the one that is the worst for them. Melatonin does not work.

melatonin is more a sleep inducer ( it takes less time to fall asleep ) so sleeping for some hours can be hard soon after detoxing  even with it as it is only a help . Try it with valerian root ( i took both ) and i have read here that melatonin has to be taken in the dark. But , of course, it doesn't work for everybody...

as you've been said... exercise, ask for some other otc aids along with a relaxing homeopathic tea before going to bed and a hot shower/bath .... and a lot of patience

good luck !

no caffeine no sugar then you could try a warm bath, a Tylenol pm, a heating pad, or some sleepy time tea. Unless you can find some OTC sleep aids that will help.

I agree with above, time is what it takes.  It absolutely drives a person crazy to go many days without sleeping.  Is there any wonder they use it for torture???

Sleep will come back slowly and 10 days is not enough time, especially if your friend's habit was for a long duration and or was at a large daily dosage.

Tell them to hang tough, getting to day 10 is no easy feat and you should really be proud of them.  Make sure you tell them that!!!!

I used Tylenol PM and that helped some because it also helped with some of the restless legs and other symptoms.  Insomnia lasted for well over a month when I stopped and really a full six months before sleep became normal again.  Physical exercise is a great sleep inducer; just don't exercise right before bed...too much stimulation.

Good Luck & it's nice that you're helping your friend
