It's not the dentists fault. My husband is a first year resident dentist (still brand new, but nonetheless) and deals with a lot of people on suboxene during surgery. They do have to cover their butts because they run the risk of getting sued for millions, and sedation becomes much more risky when there are other drugs involved, hence your life could be at stake. I've heard a few stories from my husband where they have had to revive people in the dental chair because they would hide what other drugs they were taking which in turn caused complications. There are a lot of laws in place to protect both parties, regardless of who your dentist is (At least in our state). Also, if your doc won't give you clearance, just know that perhaps your dentist can give you nitrus? And regardless of sedation they will be giving you a topical and plenty of anesthetic injections so you wouldn't feel them tugging at your poor teeth... yes, I know the injections are never fun:( ...I've never had nitrus done but my husband got to try it in dental school and said it just makes you nonchalant about what is going on, so that may be a viable solution if you can't get clearance? Not sure if nitrus would interefere with suboxene though?? I can ask him when he gets home tonight. When are you scheduled to have the surgery? 10 teeth is A LOT to pull, so DEFINATELY try to get the sedation clearanced! Good luck!
Yes,I think that's the only choice. The dentist wants a clearance from your doctor. They do this a lot to cover their butts!! Can you call the doctor and ask them for a note? I
really think it's a bad practice. Not a lot of doctors are willing to say in note: "she'll be fine on sedatives". Find another dentist.
