Methadone and Hydrocodone

I have been taking 30 mg of Methadone for about a year and am trying to ween off.  I am officially out of my Methadone as of 10pm last night where I had my last 5mg pill.  I have 25 10/325 Hydro's and plan on using them to curve the withdrawl symptoms of the Methadone.  If I only take on or two of the 10's will I be ok with any interactions with the Methadone?  Like I said at the max I was only taking 25-30mg of Methadone a day.....Please help, I do not want to accidentally kill myself or anything.....I am just trying to taper and kick the Methadone habit.....Thanks!

I took 20 mg for about 1 1/2 years and did a rapid detox (3 weeks) down to 5mg and jumped from there and it was still a very, very rough ride.  I would suggest you try and taper down as much as possible before totally jumping from methadone.  30mg is a high does to detox, from, like they said, it is possible, just very difficult.

Also, I made the mistake of thinking that I could use some pills (hydro) to help the detox process and at first it did help slightly, but when I got the actual jump, I put them down because of the possibility of starting back up right where I started.  I am one of the unfortunate ones who got on methadone to get away from a pill habit, desperation, fear, and ignornance all played a part.  That is water under the bridge now and i really think going through this probably opened my eyes more than just detoxing from pills.  Coming off methadone is a life changing experience, and I have to make it work for the better for me and my family.

I could not manage the pain of Hydro's and ever since I have been on Methadone the pain has been managable, I have had energy again, I quit drinking, have done a lot better at work and I know it sounds horrible but I feel alive again.  I am trying to get off because deep down inside I know it isn't real!  Do you think withdrawls will be bad?  I have dabbled for about a year but only been on 20-30mg for about 2 months everyday.  It is sad to say that I am going to miss the Methadone.....I will not miss the Hydro's!

remember m/done half life is 3 days, thats how long it will take to feel full blown w/d
the hydros will help alittle but not much u should have any problems.i dont know why anyone would go on m/done from a little hydro habbit. any hydro habbiot for that matter

Thanks for the post!  I waiver between 20-30mg a day and have been on them for about a year or so.....I started them to get off of a Hydro habbit but now I am faced with the reality of having to detow from the Methadone.  I am hoping that the 20-30mg habbit will not be as bad as 150ml but we will see.  I took a hydro this morning and feel fine so I do not think I will have a problem with the interaction between my last dose last night and the hydro's this morning.  I am going to try and get some more Methadone so that I could taper for a couple of weeks to see if that helps!  Thanks and wish me luck!  If anyone else has any words of wisdom, I am all ears!!!!

HI....welcome to the forum.....are you coming off of 5mg or 30 mg of methadone??
30 is high and the withdrawals are going to be tuff....if you could taper down to 5 it would be a lot more doable...its never a good idea to come off an opiate with another opiate you wind up getting cross addicted....methadone is ruff to come off no mater how you do it you will only be prolonging the inevitable if you have to jump at 30 just know people have done it b/4 its never pritty but it is doable the withdrawal will last about 2 weeks it does even if you taper...its the post withdrawal that gives most people the trouble...methadone takes a wile to get our of your system its not uncommon to be sick the first month then a little better the next month it was around 90 days that things turn around for most of us keep posting we will try to help you threw this ....I wish you all the luck in the world just know it is doable but will take some perseverance to get threw it

I am coming off of 25-30 mg a day of the methadone......I am trying to find out if I will have any problems taking a couple of the hydro's this morning after taking my last 5mg dose last night at around 10pm or so.

Thanks man.....I know I am in for a hell of a ride!  I was just wanting to make sure that if I had taken some Methadone last night and take a couple of 10's Hydros this morning I will be ok.....You hear the horror stories about people mixing and do not want to keel over.  I know the 25 hydo's will not get me very far but atleast I can attempt to prolong the inevitable a couple more days.....So you pretty sure about being ok to take the Hydro's so soon after my last methadone?

Are you jumping off from 30mg methadone a day or 5mg a day?

5mg is very doable, but 30mg would be very very tough.

You won't kill yourself but I can tell you exactly what is going to happen when you are finally out of pills. I weened myself off the vicoden and still had terrible WD. The first day will not be bad, but the second, third, fourth, and fifth are going to be hell. I am not going to sugar coat it. You will have the runs (I would go 20 times a day), headache, joint aches, very hot and sweaty, nervousness, shakiness and you might cry...a lot. I know this is probably the wrong way to deal with it but I went to the pharmacy and bought some sudafed (with the psudophedrine in it) and took that to get the "buzz" THEN, I used some valium that I had for my insomnia (which you wont sleep for a few days, either) and it worked just fine. It was the worst withdraw I have had yet. But 14 days later I am completely back to normal. OH, buy some Milk Thistle tea, that will cleanse the liver and take the toxins out. Good luck, you can do this!
