Methadone effects

I ran out of my prescription of hydrocodone and was having a pretty rough time before my refill. I got ahold of a 10mg methadone pill yesterday and took it. Now, i've got my hydrocodone and am wondering if that 10mg methadone will block the hydro effects and for how long.
thanks

" I strongly disagree with your comments on methadone."

Fair enough, add2, fair enough. I did not mean my statements to be fact, but I am glad 'Tribe" weighed in on this. People with a lot of experience with methadone (I was on it for years long ago) tend to have a nasty taste in their mouth for ever from it.
There is a way it can be used to help, there must be or it would be phased out of the treatment regimen. Maybe it will be. I suppose what worries me, and dents your credibility, is that it appears you are using it to take "Hydro Holiday" every now and again. Don't get defensive, this is just how it appears. Damn, I sure hop you know what you are doing, because from the info we (I) have, it seems that you are psychologically dependant on methadone, which is phyically addictive, to get you off a physical addiction to hydro, which is psychologically addictive. I state it this way to be (or try ;-) ) ironic. They are both dope. Methadone is no walk in the park, amigo, it's efficacy is highly limited.

This is my opinion, now. I only offer it because I care, and why I do not know sometimes, but there it is.

Healthy respect, add2. Tribe, I'm with you on this one. Maybe we're just unlucky ;-)

Getting off Methadone is the absolute hardest thing I have ever done!  It pushed me to the edge of sanities breaking point.
It is ten times as powerful as the Hydro's....i'll take 5  days of w/d's from hydo cold turkey before I ever put that methadone back in my body!

I strongly disagree with your comments on methadone. Not the kicking them part, because I've never had to. But I do take them monthly to get through my hydro withdrawals. Maybe it's the way I take them, I don't know, but they have been a God-send to me when going thru hydro withdrawals. I only take one 10 mg pill a day, after my withdrawals have kicked in, and I only take them for 3 days.

Having suffered through withdrawals many times, I would recommend methadone to anyone wanting to get through the worst of the withdrawals. They say methadone is highly addictive, but I don't get it. I get nothing from them, no high whatsoever. I only get relief from the hydro withdrawals. Naturally, since I only take the three (at most, sometimes all I've needed was one), I've never had to withdraw from them.

Maybe it's just me, I don't know?

Hi Farmar,

The advice above seems mostly good, but I would like to add my own experiences right quick.

Addict or not, if all you are messing with is hydro, stay as far away from methadone as possible. Nothing good will come if that stuff. The kick is truly the worst, and little bits of it will rovide some short term relief at the expense of a more protracted WD. Try to use non-opiates to treat WD symptoms whenever possible. Hydros are "starter" dope compared to methadone. The worst kick I ever did in my junkie life was from methadone.

You said "Even tho If I quit taking them c/t it sucks...a lot." and it sucks because you have become physically Addicted. You will get sick without them.
Did you notice the word that comes after "physically", all you have to do is drop the ed off the end of the word and it spells ADDICT.
You my friend unfortunately are in where every addict has been, it's called DENIAL.
At some point you will come to grips with your problem, but you have to go through more pain ( emotionally ) before you surrender to the facts.
We have all been there!...I myself made opiates my # one top priority, do you?...I would not let people around me know when I was taking them, do you?...I would Isolate myself from the things that used to make me happy, do you?...I used to get nervous when I was running low, do you?...I used to risk being arrested for seeking out more of the opiate, do you?
Opiates were the center of my life, are they your center too?....and if you think it sucks getting off the Hydro's, you sure wouldn't like the pain of coming off the Methadone ( it is a living hell ).
I really hope at some point you come to grips with your situation, before something real bad happens.
If you are truley not an addict, you should be able to put the pills down for 4 or 5 days and feel no pain , either Physical or mental.....can you?
We are all here for you when you decide to climb out of the nightmare that opiate addicts live through.  This is a great place where you don't have to get clean alone, because we are just like you.  There are many things you can do to help yourself go through the withdrawals and all of us will be happy to help get you through it.
I'm 10 days clean myself and thank everyone here for their support and words of wisdom.....even the depression which seems to hang on the longest for me is finally going away!
Farmar please feel free to seek me out on here anytime, if you would like to chat.  I hope you are right about not being addicted, but I think we both know better.

If you would worry half as much about your recovery and not to use you would be on the right track.........

The concerns of an addict are astonishing.......and insane.......

I'm here for information and persepective of my situation. I have been taking 40mg of hydro for about 3 months now. I still am very active and hope to cut back on the norco. I don't want to up and quit because it still helps me with my work and everything. Basically I don't consider myself addict seeking treatment yet. Even tho If I quit taking them c/t it sucks...a lot. So in that sense I am. I just don't want to quit just yet, they help so much when I treat them like meds and not drugs.

Thanks for the concern tho.

hi.10mgs of mdone wont block nething.
It is a full agonist with NO ceiling.
Generally a person needs to be stabilised on at least 80mgs of mdone for ne blocking effect to come into play.A one off 10mg dose wont do nething to block the effects of ne other opioid.

Yes, the methadone will block the hydro. At least, they did for me. I would wait at least 24 from when ypou took the methadone.

Not my business, but why go back on the hydro? The methadone should have helped w/the withdrawals some, so unless you need the hydro for legitimate pain, why travel that hydron road again?
