Methadone withdrawal symptoms already?

For the last two weeks I have dropped 2.5mg (down from 50mg) and had no problem. Two days ago I dropped another 2.5mg and am starting to feel it. It feels like I drank a bucket of coffee, queasy, and something I can only describe as restless body syndrome. On top of this I am dealing with seasonal allergies, gall bladder problems and the initial injury that started me on this stuff. I hate to sound like a crybaby but, man! If I am like this at a 5mg drop what am I going to be like at 10, 20 or 30? I can only hope that my body assimilates within the next few days? The only saving grace is that after dosing I get some temporary relief, but soon that will be gone. Is this all in my head? Or can you get WD from such a small drop? I have been on Methadone for 7 years.

I am sorry you have to fo through this. As the above comments state..You are going too fast and you most certainly will feel every drop. I went down from 70mg to finally 65 mg but was in w/d for a month just doing that. So i did a really dumb thing and jumped off cold at 65mg..Yes it was all the hell you would think and more but I had no choice once i did it. I had a very unique situation and alot of support. Methadone works in the reverse when your comming off it. When you take methadone ,it stays in your system 36 hrs and even llonger in some. your body only metabloizes 80% of it which leaves you with a surplus of 20%, then you take your next dose and the same thing happens and so on every day until you reach a plateau.(this is how my dr explained it) Anyway as you take away methadone it does the same thing but in reverse. You can take away that first 2.5 mg and feel fine for a little while but then your next decrease seems to be when it starts catching up with you and really your body thinks it;s taking away more than that. I would never allow them to do a 5 mg decrease .because it is my opinion you will be in w/ds constantly. And then you might as well just c/t it. Drs do not know what that feels like and if they were on it they might have a little more common sense about it.  i will have 2 yrs methadone free on Aug1. It does suck but it isn't impossible. I'd stick to 21 days at a certain dose. Your body is barely getting used to it when they want you to go down again. here in michigan though I went to a "clinic" amd it was my choice as to when and how much I wanted to drop. They like the $80/wk..Good luck..

Thanks for the comment. I am coming down at 2.5 mg every two weeks as it is. And I had to twist my doctors arm to do it that slowly! He wanted me to do something like 5mg every week! After telling him about all the horror stories I heard he finally reluctantly, relented. Thus I dont see him letting me go any slower. That is the one (of many) things I hate about Doctors. They go by what the "book" tells them and forget that we humans are very different from the book. The thing that finally got him is when I personalized it. I asked him  if he would drop his own daughter from my dose that fast?

Yes - you can certainly tell that you dropped too far and too fast....every milligram matters when dealing with methadone. Dont drop your dose until you feel comfortable at the level you are on - and then dont drop more than 2 1/2 mg every couple of weeks
