Methadone withdrawal

Your article gave me some hope that I can get of methadone. I have been taking it for 2 years, but never took more then 30 mgs a day. I am now done to 10mg a day, and have been taken 10mg for a week now and don;t feel to bad so far. What would you recommend I do to get done to taking none. Should I taper myself 2mg every 2 weeks till I get off it or is that to quick. Any help would be great I am kinda scared of this whole whithdrawal thing.
Thanks \
Sean

hi Foxy....im with Jeremy taper down some more methadone is a lot stronger then most people think personally junping off at about 1/2 of where your at is good anything lower and you go threw withdrawals every time you drop dose
get up to walmart they have a great 3 in one vitamin calcium/magnesium/zinc it just 6 bucks for 250 start taking 4 in the moring and 4 around dinner time
take them even if you dont have an apatite this will cut the withdrawals your going to feel in 1/2 it take a few days to build up in your system so start now
keep posting to us we can help get you threw this good luck and God bless

Thanks for the response and the information on the website you gave me. I guess after reading the website, I should stay at 10mgs for 2 to 4 weeks and then taper to 7.5mgs. I do have a question, should I start taking vitamens  now or should I wait till I have taken my last dose. And should I change my diet to were I am eating a lot of fruit and vegetables , or wait till I have taken my last dose. I have been exercising 3 to 4 times a week and doing a lot of stretching so hopefully I can burn some of this fat I have gained since I started taking methadone. I am so ready to get my life back, and be pill free, I hate the way I look and feel everyday, and hate having to depend on a drug to get me through the day, it *****. Thanks for the advice and concern, that means a lot because I don't have much support while I am going through this.

Hi there. I think your plan is sound. 2 weeks is ample time to adjust to the decrease and prepare for the next. If you become uncomfortable and/or unprepared for the next scheduled reduction, just stop for an additional week (or 2), catch your breath, regather your strength and move on when able.

At some "point" it becomes counter productve to continue/prolong the  tapering process and then its best (less uncomfortable) to just stop altogether. That magical "point" is different for everyone. Some people will be happy to jump at 10mgs, some at 2mgs  and others at any dose inbetween (10mgs-2mgs) . Only you can decide whats best for you. Its not a race and you have done really well so far.  Just be careful not to spoil/sabotage your taper  by rushing the final push.

Gnarly should log on later. He's always good for some sage advise regarding methadone detox. BTW, Its always best to discuss  these things with your doctor as well.

All the best. kind regards Jeremy. Recovered Addict
