Methadone withdrawal

To the few wonderful people here that responded to me last week with my first post, i'm still here and tappering.  I did not know anything about getting off of methadone and found it is harder than anything!! I thought i would just quit and flush my pills at 30mg but I chickend out and am tappering and am at 20mg right now and ready for another tapper.  I just wanted some of you to know that your responses were very helpful and I did not go away and to anyone else going threw this hang in there.  I have had a terrible cold, body aches and anxiety, I have gotten threw this. I have heard that dropping under 20mg of methadone is the hardest so here I go again. I have been taking vitamins, amino acids and walks to stay healthy.  Reading posts and support from family and friends have helped me so much.. I will keep people informed of my progress and how it feels so maybe someone wanting to do this can see how long and how  it feels to do this.  thankyou again for everyone's support and anyone else doing this, you can get threw this too!

yahoo!!! I guess just a feeling I'm having at the moment, so many bad ones that you just have to go with the good ones when they hit.  It seems that I only want to post or talk to anyone when I'm feeling bad which is good but nice to when all is well at the moment!

Just keep on with your slow taper, I just dropped another 4 mgs today, so I am now on 8mgs, & I feel great! As it has taken me almost one full year to reach this drop, & I only have one more month to go, yipi! I today I spoke to a person who has been off methadone for 3 months, she to did it slow, & has managed well.  Good Luck Penelope

Thanks for the support!  today is 15mg from 20mg....I'll let ya know when this catches up with me, and yes we will have some feelings in common, so far i have been sleeping ok.  Everytime i turn on the computer and see I have gotten a comment back I start bawling though..........I even cried over the movie "Evan Almighty", I'm pathetic but it is nice to have feelings again!

You are doing it the right way. Methadone is a very tough one to quit cold turkey. Tapering will be much better.

Don't be intimidated by methadone withdrawl. It just takes determination and persistence. I kicked it many times and the last time 5 years ago. It justs lasts a longer time and after the initial withdrawl, ( the first few days when it's out of your system) it isn't so bad. There are some meds that can help like, bentyl, valium (as long as you don't abuse benzos), clonidine  imodium and others.. all the best

Good for you!  Hey, my fiance and I are right here with you...we are at 39mg., coming down 2 per day.  Methadone detox is very difficult, but keeping a positive attitude - which you seem to - vitamins, exercise...you are doing it all!
The support is awesome...it truly is great to see the responses and feel the compassion here.
Y'know, we are wanting so bad to just quit @ 39mg., I understand completely, you just want it to be done...get the withdrawals going so we can get them gone!!!  I am feeling an unusual amount of impatience now.
Keep posting...we will too...hey at least we are very close in mg., we will be able to detox together...that should form a bond!  I, for one, am glad to know that someone here is on the same thing, same dose, detoxing at same time...keeping up with each others progress will make things a little easier amybe.
