Hi I am back It is hard for me to say I prayed with some prayer  people in the first week of my recovery to please take the leg thing. I was soo worried about that because of my experience 8 yrs ago. sooo I did not get the leg thing what a blessing considering the length of my use and my 3 different drugs and my age. God bless it worked but I went for a hard ride in other areas. Like I said STAGES. good luck to all we seem to say the same things that worked for us.

Hey!  I would pick up some Cal/Mag/Zinc supplement.  And Hylands Leg Cramps.  Apple Juice and Gatorade.  All of those will help the legs, and that way you won't need any stronger meds.  That will only serve to get you hooked on something equally as hard to quit!  As far as insomnia, I once went weeks and weeks without any sleep.  I might have slept two hours in two weeks.  Then I would go another week without sleep, and then get another hour.  That went on for months.  It was misery, but I lived through it.  My point is that any withdrawal is going to cause insomnia.  Getting on a benzo or sleeping pill will only cause you problems down the road. I assure you that you don't want to have to detox from one of those!!!

You could ask your doc or clinic for some clonidine.  That helps tremendously and isn't habit forming at all.

Good luck to you!!!

Hi my name is vickie I was on methedone for over 12 years but 10 years before I ha d tried to walk away and did not know what withdrws were even about. Anyway I am clean today it has been 4 months and believe me it is the hardest thing I have ever done, but the most rewarding thing I have ever did. I went down to 30mgs and was snorting adderral with it and was taking clonazepam at night so I did have a very intens withdrraws that seem to go through stages. I heard people say it comes and goes in waves I read that we do get post withdraw symthoms mild that come and go for a year or so. Also the biggest part of my recovery was watching videos of the disease of addiction and learning about the pleasure brain and how the transmitters are all messed up. I could go into it in a more detailed but I won't,ANYWAY I stared taking the same things someone told you like mag oil on my skin and baths with the salt I took mag caps, vit d3, calsium powder all this in the night from a good natual source over the internet. I was able to finally calm and sleep OK after almost 2 months. I also take alot of other natual things during the day. I know I messed up my brain so this will take a year or 2 because of my all my life drug/booze use and I am 56 years old. better late then never I guess. Just ride it out too. TRUST ME IT DOES GET BETTER DAY BY DAY. I too am still in recovery and still feel the side effects of my addiction. Coming around quickly I do feel its the vit/min that are very natural. Also I go to na/aa meetings and pray aot more Keep on Truckin you WILL FEEL BETTER

Hey there. I'm on day 16 w/o methadone! It can be done...promise. Hot baths should be your best friend right now. And the Thomas recipe really does ease the symptoms a little. I also added the calcium, magnesium, zinc supplement and added Hylands Leg Cramps. Although NOTHING is going to make you feel as painless as the methadone, so don't even try to fool  yourself. But it's worth it my friend...I honestly don't even want it now. My mind is so much clearer, aside from the night I don't get any sleep. If you're in it for the long haul, GREAT JOB, if not, I imagine one day you will be. Eight years was enough for me. Good luck :)

To add to the above questions, how long where you on methadone?

Only time really heals methadone dependence, but the Thomas Recipe and Amino Acid Protocol, listed in the health pages at the bottom of this page, helped with my symptoms. Take 4  of 3 in 1 Calcium/Magnesium/Zinc in the morning and evening and definitely do the epsom salt bath as hot as you can handle it. All those things help, but time is they key. I don't want to say more without more info, methadone is tricky.

I'm really routing for you. You won't regret this, and you may have to have faith on that one for awhile, but you will heal, keep your eyes on the prize.

Also, for the restless legs you might look into Hyland's Restful Legs. I have never tried them myself, but have heard great things from other posters on here. You can get them at most drug stores it appears.

I have no experience with methadone, but I wanted to just wish you the best of luck. I have heard nasty things about that drug, and you are doing the right thing by getting free from its hold on your life! As awful as the WDs are, you CAN do it...just keep holding on!! I am not sure of any particular drug that can help ease the WD pain, but just be careful not to trade one addiction for another. Ativan is a very difficult drug in itself to kick, I know because I have done it. Good luck and I am sure posters with more experience will have some advice for you soon!
