My first meeting

So I went to my first meeting today. It was such a relief. Seeing and hearing about people that are going through exactly the same thing I am was very comforting. I am so glad I went. (thanks Laura). I just want to encourage anyone who is on the edge or feeling reluctant about meetings to at least try one. I was scared to death. Nervous and shaky but as soon as people started to talk it all went away. I couldn't wait to share my feelings. It was a huge release and I will definitely keep going. To all of you who have responded to my questions and shown me support thank you!  To those who are beginning the recovery process... Stay strong, get support, stay clean no matter what!!!  I will share with anyone who is willing to talk.
Good luck to all!

I too had my first meeting this week. What an incredible feeling it was. I just got out of a 12 step rehab facility, so i kinda thought i knew what i was getting in, but it was even better than i dreamed. For a brief while, the desire to use was taken from me. I want that feeling more. Ill be doing my 90 in 90, and aftercare at my facility as well. Still looking for a sponsor, but got numbers in the meantime. May get a temp sponsor as well soon.  Good luck, and know you are not alone!

I was surprised to see a few old aquaintences there. I think that helped me open up and share. When I was done talking a younger boy, I'd say in his late teens, tapped me on the shoulder and said that it was his first meeting too and he has a daughter as well. He had a tear in his eye. I didn't know what to say so I told him to share his feelings but he just sat there. When the meeting was over he just disappeared. I was hoping to talk to him. I hope he shows up again. I've got several numbers and plan on getting more information on the steps tomorrow night. Thanks to all and stay strong!

Great post!!!!

I know how hard it is to open that door for the first time.  I think I drove around the place about 5 times before getting the nerve to finally go in.

I'm so glad your experience was a positive one and that you plan to keep going.

Way to share your experience which will surely encourage others to go,

bob

it is good to know we r not alone...that we r not big fat losers!  LOL
It is good to feel ok with what we are....it is important to recovery...cos we will always be addicts...and will always have to be safe....but with aftercare we have a much better chance of staying well and leading normal lives
