NEED ADVICE!! Sick Father

I quit pain pills 9 days ago. My father is still addicted and these demons have the best of him right now. My mother caught him in the act of trying to commit  suicide by carbon dexhoide., not 100% sure he would go through with it. Still it worries be and I'm going to talk with him soon.

He told me last night he was fighting addiction demons. He's been on pills for the past year, and of and on past 3.

He has no insurance, not much money. I have about $500 to me.  What can I do to help? This suicide threat has me worried. He is in a dark spot now. I'm sure he is in withdrawal thats why he is hating life.

He is the type of guy who don't talk about issues and won't open up.

I've been here with him all day. He is just in the dumps really emotional now. He looks better and I'm staying by his side every second. He took a bunch of valium the past 3 days since he was out of pills. He tells me he can't live in the pain. Anytime he takes valiums he hates life, but he took them from my mom. My mom takes them as needed.

He definitely is detoxing right now. I can tell, he is grumpy also. But getting better with time. If any second I think he is in harm or trying to kill himself  I'm calling 911. I know I should call now, but he's done this exact crap 3 years ago and was fine and got clean.   I will demand a action plan from him tomorrow, this includes taking him to doctor or ER.

My mom can't take this, worried about finding him dead. Its only when he takes valiums.

i just read some of your old posts. congrats on your continuing recovery. please guard yourself and pray that your fear and disappoint with your dad aren't a trigger for you. when you call 911 all you have to say is he tried to committ suicide and they will come. he has come to the breaking point. he needs to be honest with himself and see that he needs help. he is obviously sick and tired of the bondage and the chains that are holding and controlling him.have you begun aftercare for yourself? try na, counseling, pastor, church. you need to keep yourself strong. most treatments centers have the policy that the person seeking the help has to call. if you get him in the hospital once he is there than there are counselors who can help direct him, hopefully to a rehab. try a long term program if he agrees. so many secular programs are only a 28 day dry out period and the underlying issues are still there. a christian drug and alcohol program is longer but it gets to the root of the problem.
God bless you,

He's still sleeping, my sister is looking into treatment centers.  My sister is even going as far as seeking legal action for his medical rights since hes so stubborn .

If he won't accept treatment, I'm thinking 911 is the route. I just pray he wakes up and he's less foggy and admits he wants to get help

As a former addict, and Nurse.... I am suggesting that you take him straight to the Emergency Room, They CANOT deny treatment for financial issues. His brain is clouded right now, and everyone deals with these things differently. Please seek treatment ASAP, as a nurse I see things like this all the time. PLEASE do not underestimate. If he wont go............. Call the police to come get him and comitt him. I know this is hard but you may be in a life or death situation..... Congrats on your clean time. Please keep us posted

with no insurance he should beable to get charity care at the hospital. many hospitals do have a detox program. my husband went to one last year for 5 days with no insurance and then he went to a christian drug and alcohol program. call 911 and tell them he needs a detox program he is suicidal and going through withdrawals. they should take him to whichever hospital will accommadate him. it is terrible you have to deal with this. you are very strong. dont give him any money you know where that will lead him to. they can give him anti depressant meds. that arent addictive. God bless you i will pray for your family

I did not at all suggest any type of benzos. I said he may need something for depression, which is something entirely different.

I really don't know how it works where you are so you will have to make some phone calls hun. I hope it all works out and he gets the help he needs.

My mom is home with him, he is sleeping. I'm going to see where his head is at.  He can't take benzos they make him crazy because he over medicates on everything for the high. We did 911 couple years ago when he did this same thing. I'm going over there now to.demand he gets help. He will resit I'm sure. I'm going to try my best today but he's so stubborn. Its sad but he's just sick. Very bad off right now.    Can I take him somewhere now ?

Hi,

I am really sorry to hear about your dad. If mom would have called 911 when she caught him, it would have been a mandatory 72 hours lock-up in a psychiatric hospital to observe him.

Can you get him to speak with his doctor and perhaps he can get him on some meds. If he is depressed enough to attempt suicide, he needs to help immediately. In the meantime, he should not be left alone. Please don't wait on this.

Please let us know how he is doing.
