Neck and Back

Day 22 and I woke up after a great nights sleep with a major kink in my neck.  Can't turn to my left without pain.  I've had this many times, my MRI shows 2 herniated discs and they seem to "flare up" occasionally.  It hurts, but I know I shouldn't take anything for it.  Is this rebound pain?  tips for staying strong throughout something like this, because this pain usually lasts 3-4 days?...

I bet the game will give me energy....something about being in the ballpark around tons of people....etc.  Throw a late coffee in the system and a little motrin and I'll make it through for sure....

The brain is a tricky organ, it can manufacture all kinds of REAL pain to sucker you back in.  I wonder when you mind is taken off the pain and is focused on the game and enjoying being out if you will feel better.

When I focus on my physical issues, pain and I give it power  I have so much more pain, aches etc.  When I focus on dealing with emotional issues and letting things go miraculously my pain is less - hmmmmmm you think there is something to that?

Enjoy your night, live in the moment and I know you will get an A+ for pulling through tonight like a slugger!  ENJOY IT

Thanks Everyone.  They are trying to sucker me back in!!!!  Funny part of all this is I'm going to the baseball game tonight in SF and guess what???? I'm sitting on the first base side and will be looking left to home plate all night!  Not to mention the start time of the game is about an hour before i go to bed LOL.... I'll get an "A+" on this test with all your support...Appreciate it.

Doit - I had a terrible bout of rebound pain about right where are you in recovery and it lasted about two weeks - it was awful and I thought I would die, I wanted to die but it past and once I moved beyond it I felt MUCH better.  Just push through this as best you can using heat, massage, motrin is better for aches and pains than tylenol.  Rebound pain can trip lots of us up - recognize what it is and just treat the symptoms as you can.

Hey brother I understand the pain. I'm using tylenol most of the day When it's real bad after 2 hours I'll switch to advil ( doctor approved) I got a book on exercise and stretching from a friend who is a licensed therapist I do the stretching in the hot shower this helps me loosen up for the day the numbness in my left shoulder and tingling in my hands never seems to go away I have 3 bad discs in my neck and 5 in my back but dealing with my pain like this has got me to 34 days giver take a day I lost count I'll have to check on that been so busy at work. Honestly I think the stretching his help the most. A neck massage for my wife helps but you know just wanted your good she gets tired. Hope the kink in your neck goes away I certainly know that 1.

Unfortunately I have chronic pain as well. Some days are pretty rough. Hot showers and alternating ice and heat help me when I have a flare - up. I also go to physical and massage therapy. Hang in there, I know how you feel.

I understand the pain of 2 bad discs as I have the same.  During the worst of it, pain meds did not really exist like they do today.  I was trying to work and take care of 2 young children.  I went to a chiropractor and did PT as we could afford it and it did help.  Often, I just stayed home and dealt with it.  After a few days, I could get up and go.  When I discovered the pills, I was no longer able to let it heal as it would have, I relied on the pills to do the work.  Yes, it was better at first, but as with all of us it spiraled out of control.  Here I am many years later...no pills and wondering if I will be able to handle the back pain when it occurs.  I talked to my doctor when I quit and we will try other options to handle the problem.  I have to trust that will work.  Anyway, I hope you are able to find ways to help the back pain.  I guess I am sharing this as a way to support you and to let you know you are not alone in trying to handle the pain w/o the pills.

Good luck and I hope all goes well with you.
