Need help/advice/support for ending my Norcos!

This is my first post. I've been reading this forum for 3weeks now because I am DONE!  But I am also SO SCARED.  I've been a functioning addict for years, working full time, etc, but I have lately been taking WAY too many pills a day (over 40) and I feel like I'm a prisoner in my own home on the weekend just watching life go by!  My plan was to go ct over Memorial weekend as my family will be gone and I don't want them to see me in wd, and I'll have a few extra days off work. My question is, should I try to taper to a much lower dose between now and then so I don't die (or have a seizure)?  Or should I just wait and go ct on the Wed before the holiday weekend?  I was planning on using the Thomas plan and this forum for support during the process.  But I just read a recent roll call of all of you who have been successfully sober foe days and days and I could really use your wisdom. Where do I even begin?  I don't even know who I am anymore!  Please help me!  D

Good luck!

I took my very last pill tonight and I am ready to quit.  I got eveything from the Thomas recipe and I hope it helps.  I was taking 4-5 a day of 7.5 Lortab for about 3 years.  I will let you know how it goes or whatever advice I can share that may help.  I'm scared but I am very ready to be free of these pills.

Hi,well i gotta say....iam not in horrible shape.I guess having absolutely  no energy and anxiety is pretty much the worst!!! It's funny how much happier you feel, even though how drained and unmotivated  you feel not taking them. It's tough, but it's not the worst thing......I guess if i would not have a script for ativans,i'd be in a way more uncomfortable shape.Iam just very tired, and have not much motivation if any to get off the couch. But thx to u all!!!! It is a huge help to hear from you guys!!So thanks again, huggies  Tanja

My husband was taking them like that.  10-15 at a time without any problem.  CRAZY!  I'm so glad that you have decided to quit!  You can do this!!!  Just remember that and when you need help come here and post.  Someone will reply to you!!  You will have friends here and people that know what you are going through!  The Thomas recipe (bottom right link) really helped my husband, as did the amino acid one too.  Super hot baths and soaks helped him too.  Also to sleep he'd put his headphones on and listen to the music all night, only thing that helped him.  You can do this!!!  I would suggest that you taper as much as you can before the drop off, it will be easier and allow for an easier recovery especially if you have to work.  Take a multi vitamin and try to eat something even if you are sick and not hungry, even if it gets in your stomach and you throw it up immediately your body will get at least SOMETHING from it.  Also stay hydrated!!  Drink water or juice if you can.  You might have to force yourself to do this, but please do!!  Bananas are easy to eat and easier to hold down and help with the restless leg syndrome you might have.  Keep your head up and remind yourself that you are amazing!  You can do it, you just have to do it!!!  And remember..always, to smile :)

Thank you all for commenting. I really appreciate it.   To Carson 1975, I've been taking 40+ narc 10-325 each day and all thru the night. 6or7 at a time no problem, just keeps me normal and happy. I remember back when only 2 did the same. I'm starting a new script today and will use to taper for the next few weeks. I will be stocking the house with. aLL thins suggested for the Thomas recipe. I am done.  I want me back!  I will keep posting for support. Right one it's just the fear that's psyching me out. Thank yo so for understanding. I want to be one of you who have a number of clean days who can help other people in this forum. D

One day i was never expecting that i am going to give up these bloody drugs but today,it is my 24th day without any drugs. So it shows the adaptive nature of living beings. Only one thing is needed, our determination to give up these pills. Keep explainning your mind that this job i.e. to give up drugs, needs to be done at any cost. Good luck.

Sweetie...I just don't know how you'll feel by that Tuesday. It's different for all of us. Take that day off or a few days if you can...just for insurance.

You know, the big thing is fear. Always. And then it's not as horrible as we imagined...
Go into this with a good mindset and it will make an enormous difference. Plan for the detox: Get the house clean, laundry done, bills paid,etc...get food,fruit,juices,etc...you want to make it as stress free as possible.  But,don't start worrying now. It's not a gas chamber!!  This is a good thing;a healthy thing!  It's a lot different than unplanned for w/d's because it's all in your mind!!   Stay positive and embrace the whole thing!!  It won't be that bad if you prepare. There are tons of OTC's that you can have on hand. As we get closer we can give you a list.

For now,try to rest. Read the "health pages" upper right of the page here. There's excellent info in there!
It's going to be okay but just know...you're not going to feel great overnight. It's a process...

THANK YOU for answering me!  I was worried. I will most definitely start to taper then tomorrow. I had a feeling that I should. Do you think if I stop on that Wed. Before the 3day weekend that I'll be able to work on the following Tues?  I'm so afraid of the Wd. I know how I have felt when I've run out between rxs and it's not a functional state whatsoever.

Hi!  I'm responding and hope I can help...

That's a hefty dose so, if you can, try to taper. Tapering is difficult so you'll need to be very
persistent and disciplined.
I'd start tapering now. Cut back a few pills, adjust for several days and cut back some more. It's pretty easy. Just cut back what you can tolerate. Do that right now and then stop cold on that Wednesday.

You're not going to feel very well but we'll be here to give you suggestions on what to do!

Are you in otherwise good health?  It's rare to die from withdrawals. Dehydration is the biggie so you have to drink A LOT!  Seizures with opiate withdrawal are also rare...Try not to worry. Can you get with your doctor on this?  There are some geat meds that can really cut symptoms almost in half. Clonodine is one of the meds. It's a b/p med and will make you drowsy but it works well!

What else?  I'll be up a bit longer so just ask...others are here now, too, so keep posting...

Oh, and 1 more thing.....please don't let this post become one that nobody responds to.  It took me a long time to get up the nerve to finally join and post and I really need the support and advice!  :). I don't know where else to turn and what I've read so far, the relationships between some of you on here, is exactly what I need cuz you understand!
