Old post, but take otc Imodium AD. It's actually an opiate. It just doesn't cross the blood-brain barrier, so it helps tremendously with withdrawals. Also Vyvanse counteract a lot of the symptoms as well, unless you have a really strong tolerance for it by now. Maybe ask to have him up it temporarily. Hope everything went well for you

Great job Jason, welcome to recovery road. I , like you, just flushed the remainder of my 10/325 Percocets down the toilet, about 80 of them. I kept 3 of them to take today, as I have to go to work at noon and that's when I am going to tell my boss that I need a leave of absence because I am about to get very sick from the W/D's. I don't care if I lose my job (the industry I am in is fairly easy to get a job in), because I know if I don't do this I will lose something a little more important, which is my life. I have the typical addict story, back injury, self-medicate from the 'street pharmacy', go to pain management, get more pills, and it's all down hill from there. The crazy thing is that we don't realize what path we are on until it's too late. Everyone's been there- counting pills to see how long they would last, how to get more, then slowly losing ourselves . I have felt my personality slipping away , my wit disappearing, and someone I hate taking 'my' place. I realized that this is no way to 'live' , as you have said, but just 'survive' is what we have been doing. I am actually looking forward to the pain of W/D's and everything associated with it, because every moment in pain will be a moment closer to my re-birth as a clean individual , someone who FEELS the ups and downs of life and LIVES and LOVES.
I've been through the W/D 's before, I had a 1200 mg a day Tramadol habit ( yes, 6 of the 50mg pills at a time 4 times a day. Got 'em FedEx'd every week- 3 years later I am still getting 2 phone calls a day from the 'on-line' pharmacies telling me I am eligible for a refill. They're all Arabs) and from what I have read quitting such a Tramadol habit (I was on them for a year an a half) is tougher than what I am about to go through. It's going to be tough no matter what, but I am actually looking forward to it.
Just remember Jason, whenever you have the 'cravings' to pop 'just a few pills, a few won't hurt anything' , remember HOW FAR YOU HAVE COME!!! That 'one' pill will lead you straight back down misery road. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

I will tell you that turning down the subs was a very smart thing too do.Like yourself I was big with pills.I was on either vikes or perk 30's.I went from those to the subs;big mistake. It was my mistake though for not fully researching what I was about to be prescribed.I trusted the doc.All I ended up doing was trading one issue for the other.I do not abuse the subs(I take a half a day or every other day).Everything I've read on here talks about how long the WD from subs last.I had quit vikes and perks before on my own and the WD only lasted 3-4 days.I was taking either 3-5 30's a day(90-150mg) or 8-12 vike 750's.On day 4 or 5 when you wake up and you have this feeling in your body thats incredible you'll know it's over.A heat pad for the leg cramps did wonders for me.I quit for 3 weeks and then started again for another year and then I started on the subs this past oct.You can do it dude, positive thoughts. If you need to chat send me a message, good luck!!!

Went the bed at 2am  slept horribly, shakes and WLS, hot and cold flashes. I watched that movie "the gray" it was pretty good that was the highlight of yesterday. Today I woke up at 10 am and feel great,  I am sure it won't last long but I havent felt this good for a long time.  Took the dog for a walk amsd its beautiful outside. I have a cockapoo and he loves being walked, I realized how much I neglected him when I am on pills. Its really great to be rid of those pills. I don't care what is in store for me, this morning was reminder what everyday should feel like. Not waking up feeling like crap everyday until I have a pill in me. It sickens me knowing that I let myself be that way for as long as I did. Started thinking about friend that passed and what he would of done or said if he was alive and knew about my addiction problem would of kicked my ***. Getting clean isn't just for me, it's for him too. Rip Greg hoorah.

Hi Jason.   Please check out the "Thomas Recipe" on the right hand side of this page.  It has all the information for a successful detox.  The hot showers saved my butt during detox as I had the creepy crawly skin and restless legs.  Really hot water takes that feeling away so get in the shower or tub as often as you can.  Take lots of Imodium for the runs and it tends to help with the W/D's as well.  Not sure exactly why but it does.   And if at all possible take a day off of work on a Friday or Monday so you have 3 days you can stay in the shower and stay online at this site for support.   These folks helped me out so much I am forever in their debt.   Go get'm!   You can do this!   You have the right mindset and I can feel your level of commitment.  Great job!   I'm proud of you.

Yea I hear yea devil pills, traps you before u know what happened u need them to function. The sick part is I would justify it to my self all the time. I would say oh I only take 2 a day 30 mg and I would take them in quarters through out the day. Than I broke it down if they were 512 5 mg percocet and I would be taking 10 of them a day, when I thought of that I just couldn't ignore it anymore. Plus,I was miserable mentally and physically. We only live in this world for a short time and what me and you was surviving not living. Keep up the good work Renee and start living. You are almost there. Good luck

Hi Jason, Just a suggestion here. I am familiar with vyvance. If you start to experience a lot of anxiety, you may want to cut down on that med. Call your Doc or pharmacist to confirm. It is a amphetamine and can make you anxious in the initial detox phase. After the first 2 weeks it can give you a needed boost with your energy, but may prove bothersome in the beginning. Good luk

Good for you!!!  In regards to your other meds, i agree that u should just focus on what at a time.  I am on an antidepressant, xanax & a smoker and I know I wanted to just quit everything at once when I first woke up & decided enough was enough. I am still working on these goals, but patience is a must. There is no need make this any harder then it has to be.  Let us know how your detox goes!!

First & foremost be proud that you brought yourself to take this step. It take a lot of courage & to admit you have a problem, let alone search for help on how to tackle it. I am proud to say I am 8 months clean, after a 6 year addiction to every prescription opiate under the sun. It all started with a Vicodin in high school... Before I knew it My life revolved around it, & if I didnt have it I wasnt interested in doing a damn thing. I decided to quit cold turkey after relocating to Ft. Carson last September. I used our move as a clean slate, no connects, no doctors for hook up, etc. I'll gladly tell you what got me through it, it may or not work for you.. but I know right now your willing to try anything & everything.

Mindset was a huge one for me, Go in knowing just how bad this is going to suck, but also remind yourself daily, even hourly that you CAN get through this..I literally told myself daily ' I was happy & full of life without them, I do not NEED them'

For week 1-2, I stayed stocked up on Water, gatorade, immodium & sleep aids (just the simple walmart brand Equate gel caps worked best for me)

I tried my best to stay hydrated, took sleeping pills every night, and when it was really difficult to sleep Id make a cold wash cloth and place it on my forehead.. seemed to work.

I know this may not be up on your to-do list but I promise it made all the difference for me. Every night I would run a hot bath, & dump a ton of lavender scented Epsom salt in it. it not only helps by making you feel clean, but your muscles will be relaxed, helps with body aches, & Epsom salt is believed to remove toxins from your body. Here is more info on that..     (http://www.saltworks.us/salt_info/epsom-uses-benefits.asp), You can pick it up at any walgreens, cvs, walmart. & its really cheap.
Id sit in a bath with candles, & a glass of wine. It was by FAR the best part of my entire detox.

Advil, Advil, Advil. - expect extreme headaches.

Week 3 & on got a lot easier for me. No where near normal, but a hell of a lot more tolerable.

I started to replace OCs & Norcos with Vitamins. Multi Vit, B, & C. & zinc lozenges. I felt the Emergen-C packets worked faster & I actually felt a difference after drinking it.

Keeping my diet as clean as possible made a huge impact. Your body is & has been going through a lot, I just thought of it as the least I could do. I opted out of any & all junk food, fast food etc. Stuck to lots of fruits, veggies, meat, just all over watched everything I ate. Day by day I could feel myself regaining strength.

Week 7 & on,
As I started to get more energy, & tried applying some of that towards the gym. Sweating it out, & getting on a good, healthy routine was such a big help.

Just make a plan not only for the detox, but for after.. Cause even after your  detox is over, and the pain is gone, your mind keeps going & thinking about the drugs.. I still thought about them for a good 5 months into it. But everyday it got easier.

Again, this may or may not work for you, but I hope you find some of it helpful. I am not a nutritionist, or doctor.. it was just personal preference.

Good luck to you, if you have any questions, or just need someone to listen im here!

Vyvanse is like adderall and lamictal is an antidepressant and mood  dissorder medicine used to treat PTSD I will keep taking them. So far I got Imodium multisymtom relief 2 boxes, 1 a day multi vitamin, airborne immune system tabs, potassium pills and bananas, ton of Gatorade, water, protein shakes, I took only a half a pill total today and my last dose was a quarter of a 30 mg pill was at 7 pm and I am starting to feel the WD kicking in but I remain undetered, I have something I have not had in a long time Hope. Thanks everyone, could of started this without u guys.

Gatorade and motivation got it. I just flushed my remaining pills, goodbye forever pills. I agree about the suboxone, I don't need more problems with that thanks for letting me know before I made a mistake of thinking it helped. I am gonna grab a bunch of Gatorade and water. I am planning on going cold turkey tommorrow morning. What about my prescribed medicine should I just stop all of them that's what my gut is saying what do u think ?

i am so glad u decided u want to be free of the pills!  Drinking lots of gaterade helped me the most during the first 4-5 days.  I would really research the suboxone before u go that route.  I tried it but it just had too many side effects for me so i stopped it pretty quickly.  I am so glad i did because after that i found this website and started reading all the problems people were having getting off it.  Almost seems like that stuff is worse then the pain pills because it stays in your body longer.  Going to work may be hard, but it also may be good because it will keep u distracted.  Do u plan on doing this cold turkey?  If so, I would suggest getting rid of any pain pills u have & making sure u can't get anymore.  Other then that, I would just keep telling yourself you have a flu, which will be over pretty quickly & just do what u need to do to make yourself as comfortable as possible.  You really can and will do this. After u are through the worst of it, you will wonder why u didn't do this sooner.  I know I did.  Keep posting too, this website saved my life.
