Need support for a taper

JRG
I have been through this before and I am sad to say I am beginning again. I have a 100mg a day hydro habit and I am just sick of the whole thing. The feeling bad and spending so much money what a waste. It is time to get clean.

I am hoping to find support in my times of need and to help support others with my experience with previous tapers.

I will be dropping 10 mg today and see how I feel tomorrow. I may drop again tomorrow but mabe only a 1/4 or a 1/2.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks!
Jackie

Thanks for the support Alabam! I like you think a taper makes a big difference. I have done this before. Tapering is hard but I have a husband and kids and friends who depend on me and I almost had a mental breakdown when coming off the sub last time for a 40mg a day habit. Slow and steady wins the race and thats what I plan on doing.

I did want to mention that red bull seems to help with some of the blah symptoms. That is one of the worst things for me is not being able to get around and do what needs to be done.

I feel really good about being down to 80mg but will feel much better when I am down to 40mg. That will be at least 4 weeks away but that is okay I am willing to do this slowly.

Take care,
Jackie

I hope your taper is successful!! I agree with your post on methadone. I have known too many people who thought they were doing a good thing by going to a methadone clinc only to come out worse than what they were before. The taper takes a lot of self discipline but I think it truly does make a difference in the degree of WD's. Good Luck!!

Today I am down 20 mg and I feel good about that. I will go down at least 10-15 mg this week. Today I am at 80mg a day and working toward my goal. I don't feel great but no worse than normal.

Hang in there everyone!

I will definately be getting aftercare this time. I am going to do meetings and a private therapist. I have to do something different so this time sticks.

I have detoxed before off sub and I have tapered down to 1 1/2 hydro's a day before I made the final jump. There is no comparrison it is much easier to taper and jump. You still get the anxiety but not as bad and you still will not be able to sleep for about two weeks. That tingling in your skin isn't as bad and that feeling that you just can't stay in your skin isn't nearly as bad.

Tapering is very difficult but I am one of those people who have other people depending on them on a daily basis and I have to be able to function. When I tapered and jumped last time there wasn't one day that I couldn't get up and do what I needed to do. Don't get me wrong I felt like dog doo doing it but it was doable.

I drop again tomorrow so wish me luck!

Take care,
Jackie

I've heard a couple of doctors say that sometimes tapering just draw out the misery and don't really help. I don't know if I would go that far but sometimes it's better just to stop cold and take some supportive meds that are non opiate. The real detox doen't start until all the opiates leave your body. I think with hydro you can taper in a few days and then just deal with it. all the best

Waited to long to take a dose and I am pretty sick. I can't do that again. It is a big trigger when the w/d's start.

Hang in there everyone!

Tapering does help because my last detox was much easier due to the 2 month taper I did. It still wasn't nice but doable.
My problem this last time was back pain and I have had every test known to man. They say my muscles are just bunched up so I go in for theraputic massages every week to loosen the muscles.I am hoping the back pain won't be so bad this time. If it hadn't been for that I think I would have made it.
I have also read that methadone is harder to get off of than sub. I do think these drugs can benefit individuals who are on large amounts of opiates or heroin but I do not think they are for people with small habits.
I dropped 1 1/4 pills yesterday and I will stay here tonight and tomorrow night. Thursday I am planning to drop another 10mg. Lets see how this works. I will let you all know.

Take care,
Jackie

i guess i never gave my body time to adjust to new level befor dropping more and more almost daily, so in reailty i was putting myself threw w/ds every day. I think everyone must understand that they have to do what works for them.

yeah, thats what I heard before about sub and I can tell you personally that methadone was worst to shake too. I have mentioned several times(because I dont think sub docs tell people) that sub is nothing but a REPLACEMENT OPIOID and is a NARCOTIC, that is very hard to wd from too. no wonder it works!!!one apparent sub user, blasted me for scaring people.

I like the taper program, just stick to it and dont comprimise at all. keep in mind, your body does need 2-3 days to adjust to the new levels.

tapers come in handy if you have to work, like most of us do. make sure to get set up for the wd's when you go full CT. best to either let people know you are sick or have a week vacation scheduled.

were here to help and we all know what its like

I have done this taper before and stayed clean for over a month. I know I can do it again I just need a cheering section.

I tried sub once too and the w/d's were much worse so this time I have to make it 6 months clean. This is when I have read that your body finally starts to feel normal again.

Today is day one at 87.5 mg. I have taken one 10 mg and am about to take a 7.5. The other 3 10 mg at 7 and then 4 10 mg at 11:00.

Tomorrow I will stay the same and then Wednesday I will drop another pill. My goal is to drop at least 30mg this week and 20 mg next week. As the taper gets lower I will go slower.

What do you think?

If you can FORCE yourself to taper the wd's will be less once you go total ct. but like lee said some can never get themselves to do it. others have said it was the greatest thing they ever did. I use to taper in the past, knowing I mowed down too many pills and had no more left. seemed to ease things up for me,but still had wd's. this last time, I had a small taper and was forced to go ct, but did not care anymore how it was going down, because I was determined to quit this time for good.

its just a way of slowly getting the body adjusted, but wds almost always come. I now believe there is pros and cons both ways. one, gets you clean faster, but hurts more.
