I been in your boat bro an its awful. How many MG's are the perks? I was addicted to oxcys 80 mg. I been sober 5 years, got on suboxones an still am an now I am trying to get off of those. It allowed me to feel normal an get my self together. Id recommend it but take a low dosage an dont take it for a long time as I have so you can stop with hopefully no or very very little withdrawals. Theres other methods to help you an I truely wish you the best man.

The fear and panic will ease when you quit . The first 100 hours of detox are the hardest , after that you will start to improve every few days .
About day #4 i know i could do this . I was still not feeling that good but i know i was feeling less W/D and any improvement was a good sign . By day # 11 i was starting to have better days and felt no craveings for pills.
About day # 30 my energy & sleep & emotions were returning to near normal . I could go thru the whole day never thinking of needing pills , no more running home or keeping a pocket full of pills to get thru the day.
Yes the fight is very tuff , but getting your life back , giveing your family a real husband , father is so worth the few days of discomfort .
Get as strong as you can , stay positive you WILL do this , When it gets tuff go hour by hour just get thru the first 100 hours anyway you can. If it gets to tuff to take post for support , were here for you . You can do this , lots of others here have gotten pill free and will offer you the help , support you need to beat this life killing addiction ... Ron

The wd's are only temporary.  Our body needs to flush the toxins out of our body.  They are no fun but necessary.  The bigger fear should be what would happen if you were to continue taking them.  You can do this.  You are stronger than you know.  Have you thought about any type of aftercare?  The mental part kicks in after wd's.

Congratulations on your taper progress - you are doing GREAT.  I know what you mean about the "loss of a friend" feeling - that is exactly how I felt; like something was missing.  Well, trust me, once the pills are gone from your life that void will fill in soon.  Keep up the great work and keep posting :)

I just recently started on this forum and find it to really be helpful. I was taken Zebutal for the last 20yrs. 8-10 pills a day. I was to scared to asked for help and did not want my family to know of my problem. I started 2/27/13 my taper. I would take only 2 pills in the am & 2 pills in the pm. after 15days I now am taking 2 pills a day per my doctor I will do this for 2weeks then go to 1 then to zero. It is hard for me that is an understatement. I feel like I am losing my best friend. I do feel somewhat nervous and anxious at times but I can deal with it. I just want to be free again! I will take it one day at a time. I do suffer from migraines & osteoarthritis. Congratulations on starting a new chapter in your life mine is "No more Pills for me" thank you all again for your great words of encouragement!

Hello and welcome - so glad you found this site.  You have made the best decision of your life to get off the pills - congratulations!  And let me tell you - do it NOW while you are young, because the pills will NOT just go away.  This is what they do - take hold and their grip gets tighter and tighter as time goes by.  This is what happened to me; I started out on a prescribed dose for legit pain and before I knew it 15 year of my life - gone!

Like the others said, w/d's are not fun but they are temporary and you WILL get through it.  Think about which way is right for you - tapering (talk to your doctor and get a plan to reduce slowly over time), or quitting cold.  The CT worked for me because I was not able to taper - if pills were around I would find them and take them.  My w/d was tough, but with the help of the Thomas Recipe remedies and other stuff I either just figured out for myself or read online, I got through it fine.  It was worst at day 3 - 4 for me, with the physical issues slowly decreasing after that.  After about a week or so I felt much better.  There will likely be emotional ups and downs for a while after that, but there are lots of things you can do to ease those feelings as well.  For now, just concentrate on getting OFF the pills.

Keep posting here with questions and support as you go along.  Everyone here has been there/done that or is doing it or thinking about it, just like you.  No matter where you are in the process, you will find support here.  Good luck . . . . YOU CAN DO THIS!

congrats on wanting to stop the pills!  it's a tough road for a few days....but it's SO worth it....for YOU, your wife and your children as well...

try not to be scared about WDs....it really is like having a BAD flu for a few days....i took hydros for many years and stopped CT...i was taking 10-12 pills a day....CT isn't for everyone but it was the only way for me.....if you're healthy, then it should be fine.

like above posters said anxiety will come and go....but it's a feeling, so it will pass....and i swear by the hot hot baths as well...with epsom salt in there....it will relax your body and mind..and the magnesium will help with aches and RLS if you get that.

keep posting for support, this site is amazing for info and advice....let us know when you want to jump off and we can help you!  good luck! you can do this!

GOod idea to quit! Quit now while you are still 30 and havn't ruined any more years. I am nine months off my last dose now and I feel wonderful. It was not easy, and by that I mean there were times I swore I was in hell, but I knew I would get out of it, and I did, and so will you, stay strong, stay hydrated, drink ensure if you can't eat, and know that any anxiety you feel will GO AWAY, i can't stress tha enough.

I would take as many days off as possible. If the days are limited, work them aroudn a weekend, like the others said above, but I wouldn't take off the first day of WD. I would go into work that day, as I rather have off day 5 than day one. Day one is not so bad, day tow is worse, day three and four are the worst, then day 5 you start ot come around.

You made the right choice, stick with it, we are here for you.
hugs,
Lily

To be completely honest and not to sugar coat withdrawal, when you stoke your brain's pleasure center every day for a long time, and then suddenly decide to stop and have diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, goosebumps, tremors, and severe aches and pains, it's quite a shock to the system. I don't blame you for being nervous. Fear of the unknown is human nature, no matter what the subject. But when you think of it, this is the beginning of a new life for you. You're taking a very important step in your life with tremendous benefits at the other end. Every one of us on here have gone through this in one form or the other. All I can do to calm your fears is to relay my experiences coming off of an average of 30mg of vicodin a day for almost 2 years. My above description of the WD symptoms are at the max level, you might have less of a withdrawal, depending on the strength of your perk scripts. Also you're 30. I was 66 the last time I withdrew (still am 66). You're in good shape and you're blessed to have this willingness to get clean.

I suggest your time window be more like a week, at least, not a few days. With your present dosage expect to have sleep problems after the other symptoms have passed. Do start to taper down as the window of time approaches. This will lower the discomfort level. Get the items in the Thomas Recipe below on this page. Along with the Thomas R. I was told HOT BATHS, and I can't begin to express how the baths helped ease the anxiety and muscle aches right from the start of full withdrawal. I always slept after the baths, although not for long. The brunt of my WDs lasted only about 2 days or less. I was left with only the restlessness and insomnia for about two more weeks, but felt better and better each day.

Always reading and writing on this site has helped me quite a bit. You'll run into post from folks going thru what you're going thru. Helps to not feel alone with this. For me, once I became an addict, I couldn't reverse it. No graduation ceremony once I got clean. I'm an addict for life. I can only arrest my disease on a daily basis. So I go out to an aftercare program quite a bit, getting with a fellowship of people like myself in recovery. Start thinking about the future when all of this has passed. You never know, one day starting back up might seem like a good idea. (happens to many of us) So we build a good solid foundation of recovery. You'll read about it as you stay on this site to learn more as you go along. Good luck and keep us posted.

Yea like painbal said taking off on a starting on a Friday and taking off on Monday would be the best way to go since the first 24-72 hours are the worse but no matter what if you want to be done with them you can get through it.

I was on Percs for 2 years for pain management. I am on day 10 and feeling pretty good. You might want to finish on a Fri that way you have the weekend to have the worst part of the withdrawals. Then call in Mon if needed sick. Read the posts of others possibly tapering might work for you. Not for me tho as long as pills were in the house they were in me. Cold turkey worked best for me. You can do it if your wanting to be done. Lemme know if you have any questions. You can also send emails too for privacy. Good luck hope you choose to live!
