Non addict worried about a recent detox patient

The son of a very dear friend of mine recently went through a rapid detox in Florida for his addiction to Oxycontin.  It's been a little over a month.  I know that's a short period of time for an addiction he's had for about a decade but I'm concerned with the money she is spending for his post detox care.  He's telling her he needs $1000 every three weeks for his prescribed medications.  Now neither she, nor he, has health insurance, and prescripts being what they are I guess it's very possible that is quite accurate.  However other instances just make me worry that he's gone back to his habits and can't support it by himself.  He claimed a car problem and then used the money for his prescriptions.  He broke his wrist requiring more medications.  All unconfirmed.  I can't say he's lying...I don't want to.  He is the beloved son of my very dear friend.  I just want to know if after 5 weeks the post recovery procedure could really cost this much.

You might suggest to your friend that her son have the pharmacy contact her for her credit card information and that her paying for his detox is contingent on him doing that.
She has the right, (despite HIPPA) to ask what she is paying for specifically.

Really, the Waismann Method originated the concept of a "Rapid Detox". But like Beach said earlier, many people have tried to copy them. I have a friend who went through the procedure and can't say enough good things about it...
Yes, you are intubated, but it's a lot better than spending 2 weeks in HELL!  Most people follow their old protocols... Really, this is the best way you can detox. I wish I could afford it.

I wonder if Costa Rica has any rapid detox centers????  I'm going there for dental work next month as it's 1/3 the cost that it is here, a good friend who lost heaps of weight had cosmetic surgery there in 2006, I went with her as I go to Costa Rica for vacation and volunteer work every couple of years--well really more now that I'm on a house-sitting list of expats.
The clinic my friend went to was immaculate, caring, and the doctors-all trained in the US, were wonderfully kind.
I think I'll check it out!  May be better than months of tapering followed by months of w/d symptoms.

a rapid detox is better than dying of a methadone overdose....

it depends..some people are on anti-depressants their whole life (lexapro), the same thing with some of the anti-anxiety drugs, most sleep agents are only supposed to be used for short term, but sometimes dr's will prescribe an anti-anxiety drug for sleep also...those are fairly cheap...i do not know what the testosterone cream would be for...or for how long...adderall is for ADD but you said he stopped it...the only thing that you mentioned that i KNOW to be expensive is the lexapro...but he could get that for free if he applied for the pharmaceuticl assistance program...if you have anymore questions, just post and someone will answer...i hope this helped..

I had a friend (very rich guy) who did the rapid detox. he said it was like having the worst acid trip you could imagine. It was like living in one huge, never-ending nightmare the entire time. I could only imagine. Going through withdrawal so fast like that.

Still....

How long can she expect he will remain on these drugs?  Is there a usual time period for at least some of them?

there are ways for him to get his prescription for free...most clinics or hospitals have something called: P.A.P   stands for pharmacutical assistance program/....all he has to do is fill out an application and show verification of his earnings...and he will either get meds for free directly from the specific drug company or he might have a small co-pay...i pay $20.00 for a 4 month supply of antidepressants.....

Mayby the mom needs to take a trp across several states and sit down with her son and he needs to show her the meds, with the receipts.  That's not asking too much for him to show her this.  If he thinks it is, then he may be hiding something.

He went to the Florida Detox and they apparently do not use the method you are describing.  He was adamant about that.  Unfortunately that also doubles the cost of the treatment.  He is on a myriad of different drugs.  Lexapro, testosterone cream, a sleep agent...he was on Adderal but has ceased that because of migraines.  He is ADD and always...how shall I say this...."high maintenance".  Unfortunately he lives several states away and nothing he says can really be verified.  I don't want to think he's lying... for his mother's sake.  She's spent so much helping him to this point.  It sounds as if he's telling her the truth about the cost of his meds, but can you give me an idea of how long he should remain on any or all of them?

no i havent heard of any Waissman/Urod technique that doest use either an identical or slightl variation to this technique.Im the first to admit that my knowledge is limited but UROD/Waissman = anaethesia or a soporific followed by a tube down the throat in order to prevent the patient choking on their vomit after having their wds induced by a shot of narcan. That is the Waisman method. They might try and paint a prettier picture but thats all UROD is and itll set a person bak a cool $10.000 at least

This is what a  rapid detox is all about:

What is Rapid Detox / Rapid Detoxification?
Rapid detox revolutionized the treatment of opiate addictions almost 10 years ago, allowing patients to return to a productive life in a matter of days and eliminating the need to spend months in and out of hospitals or rehabilitation programs.

Today, the name rapid detox has been widely used to describe and advertise all different methods of detoxification. On most cases these methods do not follow the appropriate safety and success intended by physicians studying detoxification under anesthesia.

The Waismann Method has utilized the most advanced medical biotechnology available today for almost a decade, and it has distinguished its success from all other detoxification methods. It integrates cutting-edge research in the field of opioid receptors and its significance on the physical and psychological components of opiate dependency.

An experienced team of board-certified physicians performs the Waismann Method. Patients achieve a reversal of their opiate physical dependency without unnecessary suffering, fear, or loss of dignity.

It is expensive but suppose to be very effective is this what you meant by rapid detox?

yes and if you add an anti depressant, along with sub. or nalox...and quite possibly non-narcotic pain meds, therapy, doc. appointments...he could be telling the truth....but once an addict always an addict, are his pupils almost non-exsistant? if his pupils are pinpoint then most likely hes using again...how is his behavoir when hes is around you?  is he all happy and talkative with out a care in the world with tons of energy?  then hes using again...i could be wrong, but if the 2 hints i just stated are true then i might be right..have your dear friend buy a drug test for opiods at the drug store and have your friend ask her son to submit to a urine drug test...  just some thoughts...

This kinda sounds fishy.. but it would depend on where he lives and what meds he is on.. stuff like Suboxone and Naloxone are quite expensive. not to mention docs visits.. so I dont really know what to tell you without knowing exactly what meds he is on..
That is 334 dollars worth of meds per week... that is a good bit.. if he is on several meds.. its possible.. especially without insurance..
