Ok, friends, I have serious question about a medication

Ok,
I've been clean off Fentanyl for almost 9 days now. 2days off Darvocet (which I cut in half to help with the Fentanyl WD's. Anyway, the insomnia is brutal. I knew it would be, but I gave in and called my Doc for something to help me sleep. I asked for Clonidine, but got Seroquel!
How dangerous is this drug to use for a few days?
It 50mg tabs.
Has ANYONE used this to get through opiate insomnia before???
How well does it work & how long did you need it?
Was it habit forming for you?
I appreciate your answers. I'm a little worried.
Thanks!

Just started 50mg Seroquel for sleep last night. No dice....
I've been an insomniac for as long as I can remember. Ambien keeps me up all night. Many things don't work.
Almost at my wits end.

well i am like you. the hydrocodone speeds me. so no sleeping pills.
first you must put yourself in the dark. i have taken 2 benadryls over the counter and that knocks me right out. but very groggy in the morning.
also flexiral a muscle relaxer. one of those and i am sleeping in no time and groggy for like most of the next day.
of course stay away from the caffiene too.

a herb called melatonin works pretty good too with no groggyness. but it will only work if you are in the dark. if you feel that you have taken too much you just go in the light and it stops working. it works with the hormones in your body for sleep and is triggered by darkness.

sweet dreams.

I take seroquel for sleep several nights a month.  I like it because I do not have the hangover in the morning that you get from other sleep aids.
The one thing I did notice is if you take it, be sure to be ready for bed, you will be asleep in about 30 minutes.  Some nights I have to take 100 mgs or more.  Depends on what kind of day  I had.  If you have a lot on your mind, you may need to take more.
I find that if I take my pill and then read, I fall asleep pretty fast.  FInd a routine that lets your body and mind know that it is time for sleep.  I have even listened to my childs lullaby cd.  It is soothing and can help you fall asleep.  Dr. Oz says you should have the temp in your room about 60 and use a light blanket.  Close the drapes so it is as dark as possible.  Do not watch TV.  I sleep better with it on, but that is another story.
Also, keep a pad and pen next to the bed, write down what is bothering you and tell yourself you will tend to it in the morning.  I am embarassed to say this, but sometimes I begin to pray, and then I fall asleep doing it.  I think it is because I am having a talk with GOD, and I know he is listening, and that is a good feeling.
Good night, sleep tight, and do not let the bed bugs bite!!!

I feel for you honey I do.  I suffered from insomnia before I became addicted to pain pills and had panic attacks along with the insomnia. You feel like you are the only one in the world thats up and can't sleep....it's very lonely and exhausting.  My advice, around 5 or 6 at night take 3 valarian root (it's a natural herb and can be bought otc almost anywhere) before bed take a long hot shower, take your prescription sleep med and take 2 more valarian.....tell yourself, I don't care if I sleep it's no biggie (the mind is so powerful when it comes to insomnia) and see if that helps.  The silver lining is that you won't have insomnia forever, and even if it's not tonight, a goodnights sleep is in your future.

My DOC was (is) Hydrocodone. Don't like Benzo's cause the Hydro's gives me energy. But I'm not WD from Hydro's this time. It's FENTANYL & Darvocet. Maybe this is why I'm still up???
My DR gave me a few Valium to help me with WD's, but the insomnia is too strong for them. I would take 10mg & sleep 2 hrs. Then take one more & maybe sleep another 2 hrs. I was afraid to take anymore.
I would just get up & roam the house.
I cannot believe that Seroquel is not working!
DARN IT!!!!!

I also have no idea of your personal tolerance or your DOC - but seroquel may "potentiate" the valium if you do decide to take any - so keep that in mind. I personally dont think that 5mg or 10mg of valium would be a problem - but I am not a pharmacist - be safe.........

You guys are not gonna believe this! I took the 50 MG Seroquel an HOUR ago & it has not touched my insomnia!
What gives? I've never taken it before, so I don't have a tolerence.
Is it slow acting? How long should I wait before I take another one? Or should I take another one? This is ridiculous. I do have a few Valium left. Should I try one of those?
HELP!

By the way Clonidine is used for blood pressure problems and you said yours was fine. If you took Clonidine with a normal blood pressure it could drop it too low and cause you to pass out. It is also used when you go off narcotics for rebound hypertension, but if your's is good it would not be safe to take it. Klonipin is an antianxiety med much like Xanax and can help with sleep. Maybe you were thinking of that to help you sleep, but then again it would be a drug that could potentially be abused and become addicted to.

seroquel will knock u flat out..i think even 25 mgs will knock u flat out for 12 hours straight..he did not give this to u because he thought u were crazy!  a side effect is drowsiness/and it is for real!  i may woulda tried sumpin milder like ambien or lunesta first...even valerian root/elavil/sumpin not so potent..if it is not time released u can break it up into small pieces..but it should definitely work for sleep..phenergan also has a side effect of drowsiness

Nurse above is absolutely correct. Seroquel is used for insomnia in smaller doses than would be precribed for the psychotic applications.

Seroquel is great for insomnia. It works like a charm and is nonaddictive. I took it for several months on and off when needed. It makes you sleepy without any other side effects. I had a psychiatrist give it to me. It's used for insomnia as an off label use. In much higher doses it is used for bipolar and schizophrenia. You should not be worried about taking it. I was taking 100mg. At first I started at 50mg and then went up to 100mg. I had no problem stopping it either.

Well, I guess I'll try it tonight. I can't think it would be any worse than prowling the house all night long. We'll see!
He only gave me a few pills with no refill, so that's good!
I did ask my Pharmacist & she said it was OK because of what I'm going through.
I still don't get WHY my Doc didn't give me Clonidine????
I asked for that! My blood pressure has been pretty normal, so why the Seroquel?
Maybe he thinks I'm Psycotic & didn't tell me!! LOL!!!!

you can also talk to your pharmasist if you have questions or concerns, I find they are very helpful when I am unsure about medications.  They are much easier to get hold of also, my doctor is next to impossible to get hold of.  I would practically have to make an appointment just to ask a questions.  I am sure not all dr's are like this but mine sure is, so i just ask my pharmasist.

I have used seroquel for sleeping i found that it worked good.  It got me to sleep and i stayed asleep without that groggy feeling you get from some or that bad taste in the back of your throat that i have got from one other kind.  i never got addicted to it. I just used as perscribed and when the bottle was finished that was it.  I was sleeping on my own so i never felt the need to get more.

I can't get my hands on any Ambien & Seroquel is what the Doc wants to go with.
He's gone for the day. I have tried Ambien CR & STILL woke up throgh the dosage.
My husband tried it ONE time & we think he drove naked! No kidding!

I have no earthly idea WHY he did this! He promised to help me through this.
I did read about what Seroquel is used for, that's why I was asking.
I do not have any Psychotic illnesses! NONE!
He's a very good Doc as far as I know. Been going to him for quite awhile & we always got along.

From what I'm reading online:

Seroquel is used to treat the symptoms of psychotic conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

Maybe ask your doc why he prescribed that for you...
