One week shy of my 1 year mark

This obviously isn't a question, but I thought I would post here as this forum was invaluable to me as I went through detox just about one year ago from my norco and percocet habit. I had been abusing  off an on for nearly 5 years and it was really starting to ruin my life. I got the point where I decided that enough was enough and I joined these forums for support- well next week, March 6th to be exact, I will be celebrating one whole year free of opiates and while I cant say it hasn't been very, very difficult, it has been very rewarding. It takes a lot of really hard to work to fight these demons off, but it is possible and I just hope that all of you who are in the place I was a year ago, will keep fighting the fight and regain your lives and realize how worth it you are:) Its a daily struggle and a daily choice and I never thought I would be here- but here I am and honestly, life is pretty damn good. Big hugs to everyone!

I'm not going to lie the first few months were pretty tough- after the detox which for me lasted about one week, I struggled with insomnia, depression, a little anxiety, but all those things finally passed- then I was left with the underlying feelings of why I felt I need the pills in the first place which required some deep soul searching. In my case, I chose a one on one addiction counselor to help me work through my issues. I vividly remember the day- May 15th 2011, when I woke up and the first thing I didn't think of was pills and everyday after that became easier and easier for me to go on with my life without thinking of being high. IT CAN BE DONE- in fact, the folks on this board are a testament to this fact. I do check in from time to time, mainly just to read up on those members I met last year, but I applaud everyone on here, no matter where you are in your journey- just keep trying, one day at a time and before you know it, you will have one day, one week, one month, one year, or five, ten or even 20 years of living a life that isn't controlled by a substance!
