Oxycodone detox advice

A close friend of mine has just informed me that he has an addition to oxycodone.  He has been taking up to 12 capsules a day for at least the past 6 months.  He told me he recently started to snort them.  He wants to detox at home and asked me to help.  What symptoms can I expect?.  What diet should I make for him? Vitamins, etc....I know he is in bad shape and Iwould rather see him in a rehab enter but he wants to try it on his own first.  Any advice is appreciated.

Ok.....Before you help your friend you are going to have to know that this is a tough position to be in.....Only HE can decide to quit and quit for good.  Do not get disappointed if it does not go well!

Ok....The good thing is that he has only been on them for 6 months.....His detox is going to be miserable but not that bad.  On the top right hand corner of this page you will see an Health Pages icon....Navigate there and read up on the Amino Acid Therapy article.  This article was written for methadone patients but the natural suppliments are what a lot of us use....He will need to get some Valarina Root, Melatonine, strong multivitamin, protien poweder, and some fresh fruits and vegtables....He is going to want to stay away from red meat but concentrate on getting good lean protein down him.....The first few days are going to be the worse but if he keeps his fluid intake high and takes the supplements he will get over them quickly.....After day 4 and 5 he will start feeling somewhat normal again....This is when he needs to get into some form of aftercare.....AA and NA are great and free!  These are important because many people relapse a month or two into detox because they have not let themselves completely heal and they forget how miserable detox was.....It has happened to alot of us on this site!  You need to tell him that he needs to get off of these things before they get a REAL hold on him.

He can do this, he is just going to be miserable for a while....Exercise and supplements are the key and lots of understanding and most of all aftercare.....Good luck and God Bless!
