Oxycontin Advice

I am on Oxycontin 200mg, was twice a day, but my GP suggested to take it 4 times a day, which is 100mg 6 hourly. so it is 400mg a day.

Could you tell me what is the maximum dose that can be prescribed. Is their a maximum dose?

Want to come off it. So a charity who deals in involuntary addiction suggested i do it very slowly. Like 5mg a day for 2 weeks then another 5mg a day for 2 weeks and so on till I am done with the tabs. What are the withdrawal symptoms I can except and how horrible are they? will there be any anxiety, restlessness and agitation involved? hope not.

Thats a high dose. So youre 400mg a day?
Oxycontin is time release where oxycodone is short term perocet. At least that's what I was told.

At that dose it will take some time to get off. You have some major issues or surgeries to be on that much. I'm 40mg x3 a day. I tried to get off that cold turkey and it was hell.
5mg every 2 weeks will take you a year! That's a taper they suggested. Taper is really hard for people. We can't post taper schedules here but my dr was gonna take me down 10-20 every 2 weeks. The 1st downgrade was down 20 2 weeks then down 10mg every 2 weeks. Honestly my body regulates every 3-4 days.
There is no max dose per say.
Can I ask why you are on them? I ask because at that dose there is a reason, what are you going to do once you're off to deal with it? Could relapse is you don't have a plan.

Whackamoll has good stuff if you want CT.

Congrats on deciding to quit. I'll give some background so you know we are in a similar boat. Before I got clean I was using about 400 mg of oxycodone per day. Sometimes morphine, oxymorphone, hydromorphone so it was a habit. I stopped cold turkey and its bad but with determination it is possible. Now I go to meetings to figure how how to stay off.
W/d's are different for everyone. I always found time using consistently was a greater indicator of severity than dose... One thing that helped me with the chills, aches, restless leg was to go into a warm shower. I probably took 7 showers a day just curled up in the tub... but it offered some relief.. plus the warmth help stimulate endorphins (i think?) good luck to you and once you get through it just think that you never have to feel like that again
