Oxycontin withdrawal

well my story started last year with a shooting pain in my back which turned out to be a kidney stone.  this little bugger was just below the size they choose to go in after so I spent 8 agonizing weeks trying to get rid of it myself which i did but not without being prescribed first percocets then an ambitiously older doctor decided to put me on two 60 miligram slow release morphine tablets a day for three weeks.  The constipation was unbearable so I took myself off and managed the pain with perks.  Perks got less effective so they decided to put me on oxycontin where I have been stuck for about 6 months now.  I got to a point where I was taking about 10 40 mil a day to manage the pain then when the pain was gone i stopped taking them....omg I never expected my knees to ache the way they did and the insomnia was unbearable.  I decided to stay on them and taper myself.  went into excel made a very detailed chart for myself and started to taper myself very slowly.  I did this for a month with little to no success.  now the amazing part I got another stone last week in the other kidney and this time oxy's do nothing for the pain but I started to get anxiety attacks I started to go through withdrawal even though I was taking more it didnt make a difference for the pain.  I can't explain it but I am now down to about 3 pills a day and spreading out the time between each pill so fast and comfortably that I should be down to one pill a day by the end of the week.  should I be cutting these things and spreading them out instead of taking so long in between them.  this is the part I don't get logically I would imagine I should be reducing the amount I am taking over the period for example if im taking a 40 mill in the morning and a 40 mil at night should I not reduce that to lets say 30 mil in the morning then 30 at night can someone tell me how to taper properly and what to do for the achy knees and trouble sleeping.  I know eventually Im gonna have to go through it Im just hoping the wd stays as easy as it is know I can't afford to take time off work.

thanks to both you guys I really want to do the cold turkey I quit smoking cold turkey after 18 years of smoking and havent touched then in 6 years but I run my own business and can't be down for 5 days without sleep and shaking with aches and pains Ihave gotten in touch with our local addiction medicin program and havent heard back yet from them so Im hoping they can help pain I can handle withdrawal I can't.  I do like abrits taper idea I always thought it made more sense to use a little throughout the day then just two lump blocks it makes more sense thanks I am going to take it into consideration and see which way I am going to go.

I tried to taper myself off Oxy's and Somas  just couldn't do it..So I decided to quit cold turkey and get it over with..I too have had a kidney stone was the worst pain I every had, It took me 3 weeks to pass it. I was taking 120-180 mg of Oxy's a day and 2-3 somas a night for 3 years.  Just get some benso like Diazpam 10 mg and some clondine to help you sleep.  It's 3-4 days of flu like symtons but by day 5 you should feel better.. I flushed 55 oxy's down the toilet on day 2 knowing if i had them I could get to them..By day 5 w/d start to go away..Then it's the mental demons  My doc put me on ant-dep clexa..It takes 2 weeks to kick in I'm 76 days clean and never felt better. Just be honest with your Doc and let him or her know you want off..They will help!  Why prolong with taper?  Just get it over with..Set a date then do it.  If Mr Addictive personally can do it  so can you!  Good Luck and Keep Posting!

if it was me i would go back to the percs for the taper because percs and oxy are the same narcotic only difference is percs have tylenol and oxy do not and they are extended release.  since you are taking 80mg a day you would be safe if you can get some 10/325 percs and the reason i say use percs for the taper is because you will know exactly how much you are taking instead of guessing while cutting the oxys up.
but since you are at 80 now i would not go to 30 in the morning and 30 at night i would go to 70mg a day and i would use the percs and take 7 10mg percs spread out through the day for 4-5 days and then go down to 60mg for 4-5 days and so on until you get to 20mg a day and then i would drop only 5 mg every 4-5 days until you get down to 5mg a day and after the 5mg for 4-5 days just come completely off and you will still have withdrawals but they will be very minor because there is no getting around having some withdrawals but this way makes it a lot easier. If after 4-5 days you try to drop to 60-mg and you are not comfortable with it then you can always change that 4-5 days to 5-6 or 6-7 days whatever you feel the most comfortable with as long as you are able to get enough of the meds to do it that way me personally i droped 10mg every 7 days and if you cannot get the percs you can always do it with the oxys and just cut the oxys in 4 pieces and you can always take more mg at a time and just take it less times a day like if the 10 7 times a day wasnt working you could take 20mg 3 times a day and 10mg somewhere in the middle i just think spreading it out is going to be better because you wont withdrawal in between doses
Good Luck

Im completely off percs and down to 1 40 mill oxy in the morning and 1 40 mil at night and want to keep decreasing but want to know if its best to decrease amount or time in between.  someone told me to cut up the 40's in quarters and take one whenever i get the aches but I have found if I wait for the aches it takes forever to get rid of them.  the only real pain I am feeling is the kidney stone in my right kidney which is constant but I think is keeping me from going into withdrawal (don't ask me how no idea)
