This is a little different than most post but it is from someone that understands where you are at but also what it is like on the other side of your fear and that is freedom from control. I hope you are still not taking the pain medication. I had the same situation happen to me and the fear of withdraw kept me taking pills for 4 more years. a total of 7 years.  I have been pill free since 2002. I am so ashamed to say that because I did not have the courage to face that fear I creating a lot of pain and hurt for others. At the time I was unaware just how selfish and completely ignorant i was being to how that selfishness hurt others. Fear of facing 4 days cost me a lot of myself  (soul) that I can never get back. You will not fully understand what I mean until you have been clean for a while. Listen to the person inside of you that everyone is so proud of and continue with whatever it takes to stop taking the pain pills. Be honest and be proud but don't let pride of fear push you  where you don't want to be

Hiya Mike!   Congrats on deciding to take your life back.  :)    We all started out the same way and wound up exactly where you are now.   Part of getting off the pain meds is that our minds will temporarily create more pain trying to get us to take them because we fed them to it for so long that it didn't have to create natural pain killers.   Within a couple weeks you can start to feel where your pain levels really are at.   Most all of us found that our pain was actually intensified by the pain meds and not as bad as we thought it was.  Definitely get some Immodium for the tummy and bathroom problems.   Melatonin, Valerian Root, Nyquil help some with sleep.   The vitamin B12 will help with energy and mood.   When you get over the physical withdraws you will go through a period of time where you are readjusting to life without pain pills mentally.   That's the hard part.   If you can get some sort of after care such as NA/AA meetings, it makes a huge difference.   Were you getting your meds from your Dr?   Can you go to your Dr and get some meds to help ease withdraw?   What were you taking and how much?   That will help us give you an idea of what to expect.

Hi Mike and welcome!  So, how is your injury now? How many pills a day are you on, what kind and at what strength?

I hear ya on the pain pills. I pretty much did the same thing every day that you describe . I woke up and headed for my pain pill bottle before even heading for the bathroom. I couldn't get enough of them. I blew my back out in 2008 and got my introduction to Hydrocodone. Opiate immediately hit my pleasure center, which is one of the side-effects they list in the instructions ("can be addicting"). Very soon after my script always seemed to fall short of my "wants", although my Doctor felt my "needs" were satisfied. It became more for my brain than my pain.  Now I'm clean from them 66 days and enjoying my freedom from the bondage of opiates.

Just remember that if you've been on them for 3 years you can't help but become fully dependent on them. It's not a social problem, but a side-effect that's got you all caught up in them. The only way to stop them is complete abstinence from them. And, getting clean from them is completely doable. At age 22 you have a long life ahead of you. Toothfairie has some good info for you to follow. I followed the same info and I'm off of pain pills and all other mind altering chemicals to boot. Stay with this community. If you keep posting all your questions will be answered.
