Painkiller Addictions Symptoms

It seems like my girlfriend is getting a new prescription of hydrocodone, or oxycodone every couple of weeks. Her sleeping schedule is very wierd, some times she will sleep for 16 hour straight, and other days she will not sleep at all.  Is this a symptom of painkiller addiction, because i'm starting to worry?

Thank you for your support.  I didn't flush the rest of her meds.  I flushed the rest of the heorine she was smoking the drain.  We are going to go to the gym later tonight, and the we will be through Day 3. What is Thomas Recipe???

I think it is awesoime that she has you for support.  I agree with avisg, taper, if you can give her meds that would be great, I wish I had someone that could do that for me.  Wait a minute, you flushed the meds, so you're going cold turkey.  She can expect to feel, pain in every joint, diarhea, insomnia, lack of energy. Some symptoms are worst for others.  You have to realize everybody's body chemistry is different, so we all react a little differently. It also depends on how much she was taking and what she was taking.  Someone will probably post thomas recipe, it can be helpful.  There are also other supplements, I"m sure someone will post, or google past archives.  Exercise, is one of the most important things for her to do.  It gets her natural enorphins firing again in the brain, opiate abuse stops this from happening, which causes depression, so make her get out and take  a walk or anything.  Keep posting, you will get a lot of support here.

First off ,how much has she been taking daliy . I think she should taper down . You hold on to the pills and give them to her. PLZ post how much she is taking and what , remember she has to want to quit for this to be succesful.

So i looked through the history on my computer just recently.  My girlfiend had been on it today, i found links to opium and heroine addiction!!! What the hell do i do? She admitted to me she had a problem, I flushed the remaining down the drain, and took all of her presciption pills away and only giving her, her eplipsy medicine when she needs it.  She's been addicted for two months. What do i do.  Please respond immediately i need help!!!

The state govt in TN is so inept that I would venture to say they passed a law that created a database for the info but probably never came up with a procedure to actually do anything about the multiple scripts.  The lawmakers are probably waiting on another bribe from drug lobbyists to put the whole thing to bed!

SC had a database as well they will nail you if you have more then one script going at the same time

Good for you!!  I started reading this site because my daughter was in the same place you are, HELL.  Keep watching this board and someone will post a message with your screenname, because I am going to ask the others to respond to your questions about withdrawing because they know more about this than me.

I am looking for some advise or what to expext while I'm going through this cold turkey--my husband takes hydro and oxycodone for back surgeries--whatever...He seems to be able to handle it .  He started giving me some when mine ran out after a apendics surgery last May and I've been taking them more and more daily since.  I've detoxed a few times without knowing that what I was doing--I must have taken too much and my body started flushing EVERYTHING out--it was horrible!  I swore I'd never eat, drink, or take any meds. forever but I didn't really get it and a week later was back on a low dose and so on.  I now know I'm addicted.  I tappered this last week and have had the chills and stomach cramps since Weds. morning.  My last pill was 24 hours ago exactly and the diarehia(sp?) has started and I'm sweating constantly and freezing.  My legs are killing me.  I took a valium and some motrin---did feel a little better but I know it's still going to get worse.  Do you or any one know what I should expect???  How long will I feel this way??  I want to go to work Monday but will stay home and do whatever it takes----I am soooo done with this!  Thanks for your time...help.  This is my first time on one of these chat things and you seem to know how I feel.  Oh, I picked to address this to you because I have 3 daughters:)

I live in TN and our state now has a Database that tracks every narcotic prescription by name, date, DR, etc.  I'm sure people are crafty enough to figure out a way around this database however.

This isn't directly related to her addiction...but, is she aware of the trouble she can get in for doctor shopping? I did it for about 2 months years ago..and I knew it was wrong. But, I had NO idea the trouble you can get into for doing it. Letting her know the legal problems she's flirting with may at least scare her into limiting her meds to one doctor.

You can sit her down talk to her tell her how you feel . However she has to realize she is an addict ,and want to do something about it . You also have the complication of there being real pain involved here.
   There are some muscle relaxers that help with TMJ pain ,the splint works for some people . Hot packs help. What kind of symptoms does she have with the TMJ?

Yes that is way to many different doctor prescribing for her. It seems she has a problem . I don't think you are over reacting .

Let's see she has gotten it from her epilepsy doctor, her dentist, her TMJ specialist, and her OBGYN. That's too many doctors to be prescribing her these pills.  I just wish she would tell me the truth and not go behind my back.  They are in the processes of making a plate for her mouth to help the problem and the clenching.

How many doctors is she seeing. I have very bad TMJ so I know how badly it can hurt, Is the same doctor prescribing all of her meds.Have they made a splint for her mouth.

Just my opinion she must be abusing them i'm not gonna lie the high is great, but it's not worth the long term H ell...She needs help and is in denial and using the TMJ as a excuse...You're not overreacting, but for a addict to get help they have to 1st admit there a addict and then want help. Some people don't get there until they hit rock bottom.

Am i overreacting she is the first person i ever had with TMJ her jaw frequently hurts. I wanna believe she's not abusing them, but to go to a friend for more pills is very concerning for me.

She's doctor hopping. She says she needs them because she has a low tolerance for pain. She has TMJ so i wasn't sure if i should have read to much incident.  I didn't think it was a problem until i saw text message asking a friend if they had anything stronger than hydro.

If she is getting a new script every few weeks, then she has a problem more than likely...does she have a legit reason for needing the meds, if you're gut is telling you there is a problem then you're probably right.  I agree with beach, communication is key.  Is she very moody, that is a sign also.
