Pains Meds After Addiction

Hello,
I have been clean and sober from percocet/vicoden and alcohol for 9 months now.  Yeah!!!  But on Tuesday I am scheduled to have tooth surgery.  What should I do?  The DR. knows my history and says I should be fine to take tylenol 3.  What are your opinions?  I do know what ever I get if anything, my husband will totally control my dosing.  Any help is greatly appreciated.... Thanks!!

GOOD FOR YOU!!  Hey, hey!!  I think you are really, really, smart, brave, wise and honest!  I'm the one who had the husband gatekeeper while using and ALWAYS found them (like a border dog).  If I had some tonight, I can honestly say I was so upset and raging about my hubby I would have popped them easily into my mouth while pissed.
You GoPens!!!  I have 60 days today and have settled down some now.
Trying some amino acids for pain and sleep and they aren't working yet.
Time will tell.
Bless you!

I first want to thank you all for your kinds words of encouragement.  I had the tooth removed and several stitches.  The Dr. tried to insist I take the RX for Vicoden but I made him change it Motrin 800.  I just don't want to have to stress over it.  A day or 2 of pain is not work starting over with my addiction.  Thank You ALL!!!  by the way today is day, 285... GO ME!! Thanks!!

congrats on 9 months!!! whooot whooooot!!!!

yeah Motrin is great for tooth pain. My ex got a script for percosette from his dentist, he is not an addict or dependant or anything, and he took a couple and said they didn't help, and then later he took the motrin and it helped big time. I noticed this too when I had my tooth pulled, that the motrin helped far more than the narcotic, but I took the narcotic anyway because well.....  heh.

so yeah, the motrin should be alll you need.

hugs,
Lily

Congrats on 9 months!!  What a great achievement!

It is good you have a plan in place just in case you would need something but i wouldnt get all worked up about it.  Many of us have used Motrin and it works like a charm.  Let us know how you are doing~

Congrats on 9 mos!  I had my husband as my gatekeeper, but I always hunted for and found the bottles (Lortabs and Somas).  He could hide them most anywhere and my addict nose would find them.  You have more clean time than me and maybe your hubby didn't keep your bottle B4.

I don't trust my brain NOT to try and succeed in finding them.

That's just me.  We are all different and yet we're not.
Blessings to you

Congrats on 9 months!! I had a similiar issue-I had a tooth pulled and was prescribed vicodin. I did get the script filled and had my hubby hold the meds. I didnt really need it after the first day. I tried OTC meds first and used the vicodin as a last resort (It almost got me in trouble too). You will be OK. Motrin actually worked better than the vicodin! Take good care (((hugs)))~Bkitty

You got the plan...Have your husband give you the meds as directed. And depending on what tricks you pulled when you were using (boy, do I have stories) have him count the pills daily and hide the bottle. Keep you honest.  And be sure the doc doesn't write the script with any refills. Switch to OTC meds as soon as you can.

I wouldn't automatically assume you will need pain medication. I have had several procedures since getting clean and only one of them required a day of meds. Don't get yourself all worked up. Wait until the procedure is done and take it one step at a time. And like you said, have hubby hold them if you need them. Good luck!
