Pharmacy Flagged

Hello, I tried to have my prescription filled early at Walmart, for a couple of reasons, I was out and leaving out of state in the next 2 days. Well they told me that my insurance paid for it to be filled at cvs last month, so now they flagged me. I do get my prescription filled early every month, sometimes I try to just pay cash for it like I did this time at Walmart, even telling them I was going to pay cash, but they still tried to run my insurance, and that is the only way they found out about CVS. Now I am just scared that I won't be able to get it filled anywhere. I am very frustrated. I am not an addict, and don't have a problem, but now it is looking like I do, my husband takes my pills as well because he has pains bad, but he doesn't have insurance, but I can't tell that to the pharmacy or my doctor, I only have it because it is from a horrible auto accident that I was in when I was young, and my doctor only gives me 60, because they are strong 10/660. What does this being Flagged mean for me.

While I can certainly have compassion for your husband's situation, the fact is, you're running out early because you're diverting your pills to someone else.  When it comes to a controlled substance, the doctors and pharmacies aren't typically going to make exceptions for any reason for behavior such as chronically running out early.  You've also displayed behavior (using various pharmacies and paying cash when it was too early by law to fill a controlled substance) that would raise some big red flags, understandably so.  Regardless of your unfortunate situation, you've actually done some things wrong here that could spiral out of control for you.

I would REALLY strongly recommend finding a way to have your husband be treated with his own doctor and have his own script.  The way you're doing it is a recipe for disaster.  Eventually, something like this was bound to happen, and unfortunately you're finding yourself in a sticky situation.

I'm usually all for being 100% honest with one's doctor about the circumstances, but unfortunately if you do that in this case, there's a strong possibility your physician could stop prescribing the pills all together.

I really wish I had better advice for you as to how to handle this.  My only advice is that you really need to find a way to have your husband get his own pills.  The way you're doing it is a bad idea for a multitude of reasons.

Ditto on what Vicki said..I was thinking the same thing..Usually when we were going to go somewhere we could get a scrip a bit early or have him call it in. This was a very long time ago..because this is a site for people that are in recovery or tying to detox. I wish you the best and I hope you keep this all under control.

Thank you all. I have discussed with my Doctor about upping my dosage, but he does not want to do that at this point, again he doesn't know that my husband also needs them for his pains, and 60 would be plenty enough for me, but we can not afford for husband to go to the doctor and pay doc fees as well as script fees.  Again thank you all, I will just wait for the 30 days and have them filled at regular pharmacy.

So, you brought the RX to Walmart and they won't fill it...I guess they can do that...but you still have the RX in your hand so just bring it to CVS and pay cash for it if it's still too early for the insurance to pay.

Everything about our insurance and drug use is in a data bank so just know that. Most of the large pharmacies have access to the info.  We should be able to go to any damn pharmacy we want to go to and it's not against the law yet BUT it's looks suspicious to a pharmacist and the pharmacist can not fill anything he doesn't want to fill for his own reasons.

What should carry the most weight here is the written prescription. It confirms that the doctor knows what you're doing even if the insurance company says it's too early...when this is the case, a pharmacist will go ahead and accept cash.  Did Walmart say you were flagged?  I doubt you are unless you've done this a number of times and they're just too suspicious of you...Talk to your doctor about it the next time you go in but remember: The pharmacy IS in their right to not fill it if it's too early...and I think that's what's happened here. It's always better to stick with one pharmacy where the pharmacist knows you...

If you are not worried about your doctor being notified, then you might ask him to adjust the amount prescribed so you don't have to run out early every month. I don't think you won't be able to fill your prescription, but they may refuse to refill it early every month without calling your doctor every month to verify it before they fill it. This is just the way things are these days. Good luck.

I am not saying that it isn't wrong or illegal that my husband takes my prescription as well, but it is very common, that ppl take other peoples medicine if needed. I am not worried about my Doctor being notified, because like I said he knows I come to him 3 weeks early each month. I didn't get them filled at CVS, because I knew they would not fill them, it wasn't time, but I was out, and I am leaving for Vacation in 2 days out of state, so I wanted to get them filled before I left. I am now worried about no one filling them at all for me now?

Hi, you say that you get your prescription filled early every month. Since you usually have it filled at CVS why didn't you go there this time? They would know your pattern. I don't really think Walmart was being all high and mighty.  repeatedly trying to refill your prescription early will raise flags and cause concern. Since you and your husband share your prescription, it's no wonder you keep running out early.  Your doctor will probably be notified, and you will need to explain why you are running out early. In spite of the reasons you share them with your husband, it is still wrong. In fact, when I pick up a prescription, it is printed on my paperwork that it is in fact illegal to share a prescription with anyone. I'm sorry this happened to you. Be prepared to have to explain this to your doctor. Good luck.

I go to the same Doctor "my Doctor", every 3 weeks, and he refills my prescription for the same amount 60 a month. Have never had a problem getting it filled, until I went to Walmart. he is the only doctor that I go to. So do I just wait until it has been the full 30 days and go and try to get them filled at the same Pharmacy that I went to last month? I dont think I need to be worried about them contacting my doctor, because he knows I come to him every 3 weeks, and has no problem with it.  I am not banned from gettin my prescriptions filled from nnow on am i?

It probably means they are going to speak to your dr about this which is in turn will speak to you the will also probably check every time u go to get it filled to check when u had a script last time you probably will never allow you to get them filled early.  I am quite sure you will here from someone soon good luck be honest about leaving town as the reason for getting them filled. I don't know have you get a script I have to call my dr every time I am due. and have to go to the dr office to pick up the scripts there.  I some times am allowed to get them up to a week early at the discression of the dr and insurance.  Where are u from?

I went because like stated, I was out and I was going to pay cash for them. I only go to one Doctor, I don't Doctor shop, I just ran out, and knew I was leaving for out of state in a couple of days, My husband and I both take my one prescription and usually run out about a week early, so I was just going to  pay cash for them instead of insurance turning me down. But Walmart had to be all high and mighty, and flag me. My question is will I always be flagged now, and will I be able to still get my prescriptions filled????

They like you to use the same pharmacy. I had to sign a paper saying I would only use whichever pharmacy I used ONLY to fill my RX's. They are really starting to get very strict on opioids. Why didn't you go to CVS? A lot of people will go to different doctors and get controlled substances and then get them filled at different pharmacies. That's a big no-no.
