Please HELP !!! Does Anyone KNOW how to TAPER off Vicodin and XANAX ??

Hi,
I have tapering since Sept 21, 2012 25mcg of Fentanyl Patch I was prescribed and on for almost 2 years. I went off the patch on Sept 21,2012, and am tapering with Vicodin ( 45 mg per day in DIVIDED doses over a 24 hour period) and 6 MG Xanax ( also in divided doses ) in a 24 hour period.

Does ANYONE have experience about WHEN and HOW to taper off these " taper" meds? I know I am on a very , very low dose of both in comparison to the power of the demon patch, but I had to do it this way . The pain doc that prescribed it to me, would not even see me when I went to his office. He let his assistant, a Chiropractor who " CALLED himself a " Doctor" ) tell me to go on vicodin and xanax and come back in 3 months !! I JUST found out that this " doctor" at the doctor's office is NOT a DOCTOR at all !!
So, I am having to find out on my own-

If ANYONE KNOWS, I WOULD BE ETERNALLY GRATEFUL !! I am having withdrawals pretty badly, but I want it to end !

I Pray to Hear from someone who Knows something about this.

GOD BLESS YOU ALL !!

I think she meant low dose of Vicodin, in comparison to the patch.  I agree, the Xanax dose is high, which is why caution is necessary, this needs done the right way.

I just don't get WHO is Rx'ing the meds at this point...very confusing.

And I have to tell you, 6 mg of xanax per day is NOT a low dose.  It's quite high, actually, and you should be under your Dr.'s supervision with this taper.

Dear Lord, This is a mess. I would march back into the pm Dr. office and demand he put you on a schedule to ween off these meds. Playing around on your own is liable to make things worse. I did stop both those meds (ativan instead of xanax), and did so one at a time. It wasn't much fun partly cause I didn't have direction. I'd call Dr. ASAP. Good luck

Who prescribed the Vicodin and Xanax?  Are they not going to Rx those to you anymore?  If they are...I think you need to wait a while, like I told you...after the Fentanyl, and do one at a time...slowly.  Let yourself level out first.  Xanax is something that must be tapered very slowly, under the guidance of a doctor.

I don't get why a Chiropractor would be working with an MD and why he would be giving ANY advice, as they are not medical doctors with the ability to Rx meds.
