Post Hydros & chantix

AS some of you may know now, Im going on 9 days clean from a high vicodin habit on and off (mostly on) for 4 years.  I'm trying to cut all the deadweight out of my life and trying to battle 2 addictions within 2 weeks of eachother.  That said, I plan on quitting smoking with help from CHANTIX.  (I got them from my Doctor several weeks ago....while I was on my long taper from Hydro).  The Dr. does not know about the hydro abuse, just the smoking (obviously).  I've had a revelation over 2 months ago that I wanted to beat both of these addictions, and to signify that by summitting Mount Everest in the spring of 2009.  My trip is already booked and the training has somewhat begun.  But my question is at say...14 days off Hydro, is Chantix safe to take or will it somehow interact negatively with the progess I've made coming off?  Any help would be appreciated.  Also note that Chantix is quite similar to Wellbutrin for those who might not know what it is.  Thanks guys!

Mount Everest??? OMG, what a dream good for you. I don't know anything about smoking or the Chantix but lortabs are another story. Yeah, I guess smoking and hiking to the summit don't go together.

When you get clean, you need to take baby steps. You need to go easy. I think trying to quit smoking at the same time can't be good. I know for sure, in a rehab, they would say, don't do it. As far as the Chantix goes. That is going to affect the pleasure center of your brain. Same place as the pain meds do. I would do a lot more research before you take them.   My own personal experience. I tried to quit smoking after I was 2 months clean.I lasted 28 days. I was so hyper all 28 days. I am at 8 months clean now. I am going to give the smoking another try March 1st. Good luck, whatever you decide.

i have no personal experience with that but i do know some here on the forum have been taking chantix and they did not have any problems.  good luck on the smoking and mount everest.  hang on and maybe someone with more knowledge may come along.  in the meantime you might try googling that ?

I think angel took it when she was a couple weeks clean from Trams..I think it will be ok...
just quitting the smokes themselves may be more of a hindrance...that's alot to tackle all at once..but what do you have to lose???
