Pregnant and Dependant on Hydrocodone

I saw that I had gotten another post to an OLDer post from Mid Dec- and just wanted to have a recent one so if there were other folks in this position - they knew they could post a question and have it seen by all...

First, lemme say - Riki (i hate lortabs) - Thank you!  The website
http://excoboard.com/exco/index.php?boardid=15464

is GREAT!  It is for moms on methadone.  I am not on methadone - but the facilitator of that forum - is the best.  I called and spoke with her today - and she is truly a GODSEND.  She does not belittle you - but only tries to help.
If you are reading this post and are preggo - or know someone who is - have them get on this forum and that one too.  My current doc almost had me go through FULL BLOWN w/d - which could have been the worst thing for the baby!  Granted, I feel blessed to have tapered to where I'm at (10mg daily) - but I had gone from 10 to 5 to 0 - and was in bad shape.  I could have gone into preterm labor or had the baby experience really bad w/d.
Also, I truly never understood dependant vs addicted.  I still feel guilt and conflicted about those terms - but am learning to understand the difference.
Once again - to all of those following this saga - thank you for your support.  To those who are new - keep us up to date on your progress - and a big thanks to Riki who forwarded on those sites.  THANK YOU!  And thanks to my girls on this forum who have been such tremendous support!!!

Hey girl - WOW!  I'm feeling for you!

First, know that you are not alone.  Now - how much are you taking??  Are you seeing an OB?  Does your doc have any clue about your pills?

The first word of warning is that your baby MIGHT be born addicted - depending on the level of your use/abuse.

Please know that a baby born addicted does not mean bad things for your baby.  It means that he will have to go through withdrawls (the same as we experience) - but they can be monitored and controlled - and he can be healthy and happy as any other kid after the fact.
There are also possiblities that he will have ZERO withdrawl - but depending on your usage - and it depends on the baby too!

Please do look at that website that i mentioned in the first post - and do not be afraid to contact Sharon on there.  She is amazing and tell her I sent ya.  the best thing to do is to get as much info on this now - be honest with your provider.

Please - please keep us posted - and ask as many questions as you can - we are here to help - that is the main reason I re-posted this!!!!

Take care and I'll be thinking of you!  (I'm due in 3 weeks!)

Also - whatever you do - DO NOT try to go cold turkey or quit all together.  I have found that can do more damange than help you - especially this close to delivery.

You can start to taper some- but not sure that will help at this point.

But do not quit all together - whatever you are feeling - the baby is feeling even WORSE inside!
