Pregnant and taking oxycodone

Im in the same situation as u I just found out I was pregnant and I'm addicted to oxycodone 30mg I take up go three a day. Ive never givin myself the chance to quit I'm so scared tOday I tried not taking any at all and It worked till about 4 this afternoon I started feeling the hot cold sweats and feeling very anxious I tried to just hang in there and not take any but I did and I just dont know where or how to get off of them. I researched rehab centers for pregnant women and found a few clinics I don't know if I should go there or just stop cold turkey like I tried. I have my first appointment with my ob on Tuesday and I plan on telling her everything. I just wish I could get off these quick. Any advise or suggestions would be nice I don't have much friends I can talk to. Thank u

HI, I am in the same situation as you. I just found out that I am pregnant and I am prescribed 30mg oxycodone for chronic pain. I am waiting for my consultation with my obgyn next week to see what the safest thing to do, however, Like others in this thread hav mentioned, withdrawls are worse for the baby as it can go into shock. I am just scared that taking my medication is harming the baby and that if I just stop I could possibly miscarry. I know this is an older post but if you can let me know what happened and how your pregnancy has been going or how it went..if you have delivered please let me know!!

My name is Megan & I am also in the same boat as you guys... I'm addicted to roxiecodone, and I have just got to were I only do one a day so I am not sick. I want to quit cold turkey and plan on telling my doctor about my problem. I feel a lot better reading this.. Hopefully, everything willbe fine like you guys story. I am only 4 weeks preg. and I also have had a miscarriage before. When I had the miscarriage I knew something was wrong bc I didn't plan to become pregnant. I didn't even think I could get pregnant. I was also drinking liqour everyday before I concieved & stop right as I found out. Sadly, when I got my ultrasound, my nightmares came true.. it had no heartbeat & didn't even form. I am feeling very differnt from my last time I was pregnant.. My stomachs alot harder and I feel it changing everyday., I havent been to my doc appt. yet & i have to wait to get insurance to get my first ultrasound.. I am going to be able to quit cold turkey I think. I'm not withdrawing that bad.. I just want to make sure my withdraws don't kill my baby. I have prayed every night that this baby comes out fine.. Any feedback would be great.. Please no negative, I know not everyone is perfect but I really need some positive.. Everywhere I turn is negative... Thankyou & god bless.

It would be nice if they would help you taper off the oxy's and skip the subutex.  That comes with its own set of problems when it is time to get off them.  They are a pretty powerful pill.  I would do some research on them before you make a decision.  Write down your questions for the nurse or doctor.  That way you wont forget anything!  I am so glad you are reaching out for help with this.      sara

The nurse I spoke to on the phone mentioned about keeping me on the percocet all I wAnt is fort baby to be healthy and have no withdrawals. I have so many questions now and all I can do is wait till the morning to call the nurse back to get more answers. I'm so confused. If subutex is just another opiate I'm starring to question it.. Does it have to do with the wd symptoms and it's supposed to be easier to get off of these compared to the percocets.. Or is it something I can take and the baby will be okay with no wd symptoms when born these are just some of my thoughts this is my first pregnancy and I'm so scared. I just pray everything is going to be ok. I havent told my family and that's stressing me out too.. Thank u all for ur support :)

I was on percocet 2 years prior to getting pregnant this time around, my second baby (: I have an almost 3 year old. I was prescribed the pills for chronic pain issues and just saw a specialist on Wednesday. I think its awesome you are able to get off the drugs, as for me my doctor highly did not recommend trying to wean me off. So now baby and I have to be closely monitored for the duration of my pregnancy. So far everything is going great (: I was taking 30mg 3-4 times a day and am only taking 10mg 3 times a day. Congratulations on your pregnancy and taking the steps you need to do what's best for the baby. I would do the same if it wasn't so dangerous for me /: good for you (:

Taking sub will make it easier on the baby as a cold turkey can be pretty rough nd can be dangerous while preggo. I'm sure there going to just ween u off real fast with the sub and won't be nearly long enough for u to get addicted to it. U should have little wd if done right u will have a few sick days once u stop completely. The baby will b fine Just get all the help u can get and trust ur doctor.

Thank u for your support! :) I feel a lot better today I went to see a nurse at the hospital I'm planning to deliver at and she gave me info on what can be done I'm going to see an ob in two weeks who specializes in women that are addicted to opiates she also wants me to stay over night in the hospital so they can monitor me while I detox then they will prescribe me subutex she said I couldn't come until I started withdrawing so i plan to go on Sunday so that way I can be out on Monday and start my new life without drugs. She asked me if I wanted to start the subutex and the hospital thing right away or see the ob first.. I just want to be off of the Oxys as soon as possible I just don't know if I should jump into that right away or see the ob first.. Ether way I'm going to have to do it. I'm also curious if I'm taking the subutex will the baby have withdrawals from this?? I hope not but I know it's what I need to do. Thanks again for ur support:) my dogs name is domino and he is the love of my life I just thought it wAs awsome when I seen ur post :)

Hi and welcome to the forum.  I am so happy you are going to talk with your OB about this.  That is so very important.  She will help you taper down off the pills as that is the safest.  Going cold turkey isnt the thing to do right now.  We want you and the baby to be safe.  Keep talking to us.   sara

Okay; don't worry anymore!  I'm glad to hear you'll be talking to your doctor next Tuesday. That's perfect!   And it's the right thing to do...

Now, don't stop the pills just yet. Let the doctor instruct you on how he/she wants you to do this. It's very dangerous to stop cold turkey so don't think about that, okay?

Any other questions?
