Propranolol for Opiate WD

I have been taking anywhere between 50-75 mg of percocet per day for the last 5 years. My Dr prescribes me 5mg 6 times per day, however, he gives month supply at one time and I run out after about 2 weeks, and have to wait another 2 weeks for the refill. I really want to get off them, but I am scared that I will be in pain. I am tired of being dependent on them. I am currently out and have to wait until 3/28 to get a refill. I was wondering if Propranolol would help me with the withdrawal symptoms to I can make it through work days. I just want this feeling to go away, I am currently taking some Gabapentin that I had from years ago, but it is not enough to take all WD symptoms away. I am embarrassed to ask my doctor for help during this time. I don't know what to do, I am feeling lost and want this to end!

I did break down and decided to contact my doctor today. He is going to put me on Clonidine 3x a day for 7 days. I also asked him to prescribe something for the diarrhea as well as the aches in pains. I am concerned that after getting off the pain meds completely I will be start experiencing the pain in my back again, but I will not want to get back on anything that strong or anything that is addictive. I am praying that I can get off these by just sticking it out with the clonidine.

Hi & Welcome,

Propranolol is a high blood pressure medication. It may ease the symptoms a bit but it surely will not take the withdrawal away. There is no way to escape that especially since you have been abusing the pills. It is just a  suggestion but I think you should get honest with your doctor and ask him to help you with a good taper plan. If you taper it will help lessen the withdrawal symptoms.
