The answer to your question is do you want to be placed on subs, that depends on your usage of opiates and the duration. Most of the time, the doctor will place you on subs to rid of the nasty withdrawals and will arrange a longer maintenace dose time too, as most of the time the doc will only have you on sub as long as you are under their care,,, god bless, mike in nc

as far as "rehabs" go...there is basically something for everyone.  the setting may be different...but the goal is the same.  my suggestion is to research, find a few centers that interest you, and then call them and discuss the day to day itinerary.

You have some good answers above as to what to expect. When you go, just remember that you're surrendering your addiction. I guess you could say "to a power greater than you". I discovered that just going to rehab and then meetings wasn't going to change me. I had to WANT to change. Then AA/NA showed me how to change. It's very, very do-able if your willing to try. But I had to get out of the driver's seat and let them take over. Try to stay out of yesterday and tomorrow, be in today, relax, listen, and enjoy your new drug-free life. Wish you the best.

Hi jt, I went into a rehab 90 ago and so far with a great aftercare plan, things are going much better than what I thought. I came in with the attitude that I wanted to help myself and save myself from death. To be up front, Rehab is no Hilton Inn, its what you make of it and what you want to do for yourself. Your first 3 days are strictly detox, and the doctor will place you on meds to help with your withdrawals and to keep yourself medically stable. The doctor will put you on meds that will last you from 3 days to 30 days. Classes on well being, music, therapy, drugs and dangers are given during the day. NO smoking, no caffiene, and total lockdown, that is to keep you safe and the along with the staff. I spent 9 days in detox as I was on opiates for over 20 years, and I had some problems with my blood pressure. Then I spent 3 weeks in rehab where everything is involved with structure and life skills, and you can smoke then, but still NO caffeine. I benifited very well this time, as I wanted it, if you want it, its going to work,, god bless, mike in nc

Hello I went into Rehab about a year ago.  I made the mistake checking myself in on a Friday night.  Weekends at the place I was at was very low key.  We really didnt do much and I was in so much pain as I have severe shoulder pain.  I saw a fill in doc that did order Ativan 1mg twice a day and tylenol for pain.  I was in full blown withdraws and feeling horrible but the ativan didnt seem to help at all.  I so regretted checking myself in.
They do put you on a schedule up at like 6am you make your bed have 15 mins for bathroom and shower.  Then everyone went to breakfast together than we did some group therapy.  Then pretty much just watched movies and played a few games.  This was all we did Sat and Sun.  On Monday I actually got to see a doctor and he talked to me about my addiction history.  I was completely and totally addicted to Norco (was taking about 35 10/325 daily) so I was feeling very very bad.  He recommeded I start suboxone as was explained as a magical pill.  I will tell you after I took my first dose the withdraws were cut to about 50% and then I had another dose and withdraws even got better.  My shoulder pain was sooooooo much better.  I started to thank God up above I went.  So back to my schedule you basically do alot of group therapy, art therapy, and movie time, and then you get like maybe 30 mins to write in a journal.
I was talking to you about suboxone if you are addicted to opiates I would highly recommend subs but go into it knowing much more about it than I did.  I had no idea about anything.  The doctor just told me it would take away cravings and withdraw symptoms and help with pain.  Well it did all the above.......but I had no idea that Subs were addictive too as well.  I am still trying to get off of them and it will be a year in April.  If you do have sub as an option I would say go for it and only do a very very very short course of the subs.  After about a week or two start to ween down off the subs than stop it.  After you stop have your doctor just put you on Naltrexone (which is part of what is in subs) its the part that helps you reduce the amount of cravings for drugs.  I so wish this is what I would have done but I had no idea about anything.  I had never even heard of subs before I was introduced to them.  I will say I thank god i was given the subs but so wish i would have been better informed and would have done what I recommended to you.  I wish you all the best......please get clean.  You deserve it.  If you ever need to talk to me please message me.  Big hugs to you

I have not been to rehab but 2 of my close friends have...as a rule there is no medicine given out at all...substances are often not used unless it is a facility who uses suboxone..one went to the first type///no meds for wd except tylenol//not even coffee///the second went to a facility who uses sub to help wds...a year later and she can not get off the sub...dunno they r all different..check into the places u are thinking of going to see their approach...they r all different
one thing i know is they go to aftercare stuff in most facil;ities most of the day.///meetings and support discussions...I do recall jt, that u resist aftercare like the plague..these facilties force it down ur throat all day long...r u ready for that?  By now i think u know who has to do the work///the rehab facility can not do it for u...u will stay clean while u r there tho..perhaps that will be a great start for u...only thing is u will have to stay clean when u get out cos they will not follow u around checking on u....gotta be in ur heart..getting clean does

good luck to u jt
