Quiting a small dose of Vicodin 10mg.

Hi, I really need some good tips, that are accurate in helping me quit taking a pain pill that was prescribed to me after a car accident 2 months ago. The pill is Vicodin 10mg. I take 2-3 a day for the past 2 months. I want to stop the medication now, because it is no longer needed. However, I have flu-like symptoms when i don't have the medication for 2 days. I am scared to stop taking them because online I heard that you can have a seizure from just quiting. Is this true? A friend said that only if you take way more than the 2-3 a day I have been taking for 2 months. Please help me!! I'm confused and I have now quit, day 1, but I don't want to seizure!

If you are having an elevated heart rate, please phone your doctor. He/She should know that you have decided not to take the medication anyway. It could be anxiety and it could be something else. You will need to see your doctor to find out. I wish you the best.

Thank you. So that explains why sometimes I feel like I'm having a anxiety/panic attack throughout the day. Ok, yes I can see that these are not what I want to be on. Period.

Once again, thank you.

Thank you for the information. All of them are gone. Thank you. What about elevation in heart rate? It seems my heart is beating at an elevated level since I've been going through this?

Thanks again.

It is not true that you will have seizures from quiting opiates cold turkey. You are on a small dose for a very short amount of time and you will feel like you have the flu for a few days. You will be anxious, it will be difficult to sleep, you may sneeze an excessive amount and you may also yawn alot for the first few days. All of this will pass within 4 to 5 days then you will start to feel much better.

It's great that you have decided to quit now. It only gets worse from here if you continue down this road.

Good luck!!

Vicondin withdrawal does NOT carry with it any risk of seizure. There is only one type of drug that does and you are not on it.

The best way for you to quit is to stop taking the pills. The amount you are on, and the duration will have withdrawal for about 3 days. You are familiar with the flu like symptoms so you know what to expect. Make certain all of the pills are out of the house so you are not tempted.

Be certain to push fluids, get food in your system and keep yourself occupied by reading, watching tv, talking here...whatever makes you comfortable. If you have bathroom issues you can take Imodium. Any other symptoms, ask and you will always find someone here who can suggest something.

Glad to see you have given up the pills. Good luck and stick around.
