Quiting cold turkey

Hey it's me again, I'm still trying to beat this addiction but it's the hardest thing I have ever done. I have made plans to go out of town with my mom for 1 week to try and quit cold turkey. She has been a big part of my support and want nothing more than to help me get off this ****. We are both going to the doctor tomorow to see what kind of other medication she can give my mom to ease the withdrawls for me. Again I'm just looking for any suggestions on what worked for other people. I have my mind up about this and I am going to do it while I'm still young. Ireally do want to live life like this anymore. Thank you for any suggestions anyone might have, I really appreciate it.

Congrats on wanting to get your life back.  You are very lucky to have your moms support also.  That will be a big plus.  I went cold turkey off my meds over a year ago.  I put it in my mind that this is what i needed to do and however bad i felt it was just one day closer to ridding my body of the toxins.  You can and will get thru this.  Stay positive in your thinking.  Drink plenty of fluids and eat bland food.  Keep us posted on how you are feeling..........sara

Yes, that is what i was asking. :)...As far as the valium, that would have to be your call, and your doctors...I have been through benzo detox, and for me that was much worst then opiates, but in a whole other way.....SO i am sure you know about those already...
Read alot of post, make a plan, and do it....I agree with jollyman, you are so young, and have your whole life ahead.....We will all be here to watch you Beat this!!

My DOC is oxycontin, I have been taking approx 100mg a day to keep the withdrawls away. I was up to 300 mg a day at one point about a year ago. I have lots of clonidine and do have access to valium but not to sure if the valium is a good idea. I hope this is what u were asking. I am new on this forum and not to familliar with the lingo but anyway thanks alot for the info and the support

Man you are so young so you HAVE  to do this!! I was 47 when I went cold turkey plus I have kidney failure so the w/d's were very hard on me i was sick almost 3 weeks. I was on a 4 year love affair with morphine and percs, have chronic back problems and was going to a pain specialist, But listen if I acn kick and all the others here can so can you, today I have 76 days clean and have felt so good in such a long long time I have a zest for life that is unreal and I know whatever days I have left here on earth are going to be my best. It's not easy try looking at the health pages for some ideas to help, but remmebrer your life will be so much better plus you have your mom to help great support system plus you have all of us here that will help and support you, good luck and God Bless...brian

First off, congrats on taking that first step!!  and bless your mom for being so supportive to help you..
Can you give a little more info on what is your Doc? and how much for how long?

For me, I was taking up to 20, 10mg of lortabs a day....These are the things that helped me...

clonodine
klonopin ( used very sparingly)
zanaflex ( amazing, for the RLS )
melatonin ( for sleep)
HOT BATHS
Exercise , starting with small walks, force yourself to do this, it will speed up things
heating pad on calves
lots of fluids
lots of immodium liquid..

Good luck and the biggest thing is aftercare!!  Try to keep yourself out of your mind!!
god bless
