Rebound Headaches - Excedrin Detox

Hello.  I've suffered from daily headaches for over 10 years now and have been under the supervision of a neurologist, who hasn't always been the easiest to get into visit.  Last week, I saw a new one and in desperation, I FINALLY took his advice to detox from Excedrin Tension that I have been usually on a daily basis for those "annoying" headaches that I wake up with.  I am on Topamax daily, and also take Relpax for those severe migraines, but I don't abuse that, but really feel that the Excedrin is excessive.  He also gave me Decadron as a "rescue" med.  After starting to come off of the Excedrin on Tuesday, on Friday I had a killer Migraine and started the 3 day course of Decadron and have been doing really well.  I have also tried to lower my Diet Coke intake, and will continue working on that!  If you have went through this, how long did it take for you to get through this?  I am worried since I took the only Decadron I have, that when I go to work tomorrow that a killer Migraine will appear again.  Any input???  Thank you!

I will admit I have never heard of this but the caffeine does make sense.  I have heard of rebound headaches if you rake Fiornal or Fiorcet for them. And you don't want to start that route. A migraine medicine like Imitrex could be helpful.

Would a couple Motrins or maybe a soda or coffee help? Maybe take ease the caffeine affect some?  Hopefully it will end soon. Good job getting through this.

HI I had migraines years ago and know how horrible they can be, after reading your post do you think you could be having headaches more frequent because you stopped Excedrin which has caffeine in it and diet coke which also has caffeine? Just a thought I have read that caffeine withdrawal can cause headaches. I know if I start to get a headache I have some coffee and that usually helps. Sorry I cant be of more help, and Welcome to MH:)
