Rough day

I am so fet up with not feeling OK.  I'm on my seventh day clean off the pills, and while a lot of the physical stuff is dropping off (less GI symptoms, nausea and aches), the foggy feeling, blurry vision and restless, irritable feelings are still strong.  I hate this.  I hate this so much.  I guess part of it is anxiety...it's my first day home alone, without my husband to help me.  I guess I just gotta stay busy.  At 430 pm today, I will have made it a week without pills.  And I swear to God, I will never, ever go back.  I just hope He helps these symptoms go away soon.  Thanks for listening.

GoingToMakeIt, worried and lifesaride: Thanks again for the advice about the supps.  I'll get out to get them in the next few days.  Wow...I'll be taking almost as many pills as I was before ;-)

BoboR-I know what you mean!  I almost feel like myself in the tub.  Don't know what it is about warm water...it makes things feel so much better

Hang in there. The toughest part is the first week to 10 days. I'm pretty new here, and I recall my first post was on about my 8th day off methadone. Some of the physical symptoms were disappearing, but I couldn't shake that "blah" feeling, that foggy feeling you describe. I felt like I was walking around in a haze or something. Couldn't concentrate, etc. It will get better in the next couple days. Try to at least stay hydrated. Exercise is your friend, even if you have to drag yourself out for a walk. Then come inside and soak in the tub.

This may sound weird to some people, but it helped me. I used hot baths very frequently. They also helped soothe my nausea. More than once, I have run a hot bath, popped a piece of toast in the toaster, carried to bathroom on a tray, climb in tub, and eat what I can while soaking in the bathtub. Weird, I know. Something about the hot water relaxes and soothes all of me, stomach and all.

yes...very worthwhile to start the supps even later...ur brain needs those aminos to heal..dont forget...and the other vitamins for energy and well being...later is better than never...and for a few months to come u need to stick to em...there is an anti-nausea med..sweet/kinda yucky at walmart...walmart brand & is like 2 bucks...but it works...a sip of that and the tummy chills out....if ur doc will call in phenergan...most will for any tummy probs as it is a safe drug..ask him..or call him and tell him u have a virus...helps nausea, sleep and anxiety and not habit forming..also an anti-histamine and helps the runny nose stuff...be safe and hang on tight....stay with toast, bland stuff that sits well on ur tummy...pudding was good for me then...Walmart also has a EmergenC that mixes with water and is full of vitamins too...be safe

Yeah then don't take them until things settle. Some have had good luck with Ensure. Sip it real slowly.
Yes, taking them for a long time, mega doses 2x/day. Our bodies can't assimilate them well enough yet, so mega doses and the twice daily is so that your water soluble vitamins are in your system.

Thanks again, worried,  Chaos and goingtomakeit.  I still have some real nausea every time I try to eat anything.  I am at least taking a multivitamin, but even that makes me my nausea come back.  If I wind up getting through 10 days without the supplements/amino's is it worthwhile to start then? And if so, which ones would you say were most important.  I'm guessing the mineral, and bcomplex?

Be sure to start taking lots of vitamins, supplements and aminos. I believe they are key to a successful recovery. check out the Health Pages for the Amino Acid protocol.

I've been off the pills for about 21 days.  Day 8 and 9 were bad, and then day 10 got a whole lot easier.  I think around day 8 and 9 it was just that icky left over flu like feeling and the blahs and no energy that you're talking about that had me so frustrated and pi$$ed off.  I just wanted to either feel normal like I did when I was taking my meds, or normal like I did before I started taking my meds and getting to the normal part seemed to be taking too long.  That, and I didn't remember how I felt before the pills because it has been so long.  But it did get better and is getting better and is worth it.  Stay busy, force yourself to do stuff so you're not home dwelling on how sh!ty you feel.  And remember, it won't come back all at once, especially the energy, but each day it comes back and little more and a little more and soon you do start to feel like your old self again.  and it makes the couple weeks of not feeling good really worth it.

Thanks...I actually went out and weeded the garden for a while.  It certainly helped with the muscle weakness and restlessness.  Then soaked in the tub for some more.  Thanks for the tips about getting moving.  It was just what I needed to put my butt in gear.

Good for you. I think the first week was the hardest part and in a few hours from now you have accomplished that. Its only going to get better from here...remember that. Since you cant drive how about going for a walk. I know its probably the last thing you want to do but honestly it really does help. Try watching a funny movie or read a good book. You will find what works for you but try to do something, anything to keep your mind of pills and how you are feeling! Best of luck to you!

Thanks...I appreciate the support.  I can't really get out of the house right now, cause I can't drive.  I haven't mentioned the car accident I was in the day I quit...but I got a nice whonk on the head, had a seizure and have a concussion.  I honestly don't think it had anything to do with my use....I swerved to avoid an animal the jumped out in front of me, but I know it has probably made my symptoms worse.  I can't drive or really do a lot on my own until I get the clear from my doctor.  Hopefully tomorrow.  I will try to piddle around the house.  I just still feel so blah and a bit nauseated.  Thanks again.

Since you said the physical part is almost gone, It would be a really good idea to do something to occupy your time rather than sitting at home. I know for me when I am out doing something I dont even begin to think about pills anymore. You have made it a week and that is huge..just hang in there buddy!
