*SMOKING OXY AND PREGO :(

Hi. Well im 26 weeks pregnant with my first child and im having a girl. And I have a problem, I have been smoking Oxycodone 30 MG on the tin foil for about a year now, during the first trimester I have not been smoking Oxy maybe a Hit or two here and there and i dont do it everyday. latley Ive been smoking but still not alot, maybe 6 pills a week. My boyfriend has them perscribed to him and gets about 160 a month, and when he gets his scripts i smoke about 8 during the weekend. I know what i am doing is wrong and i feel so guilty for doing this to my baby girl. I love my baby so much trust me i really do. I go the week without smoking anything and when the weekend comes i find myself getting high. In a smoking session I take about 4 or 5 hits. Nobody knows I smoke exept my boyfriend, yeah i know how bad that sounds, but he is totally against me smoking, Im the one that insist i do it, and if he doesn't give me any I will take from him and smoke a pill bymyself. Like I said I dont do it everyday, please dont judge me. I feel the guilt in my heart and believe me I am a good person with a good heart. But I juss want to know will my daughter be born slow or anything??? As of now i am not going to do oxy for the rest of my pregnancy. I need support from women who have been there and can help me!!!! but will my baby be born slow or have problems?????????? cuz i read that Oxycodone may NOT have any effect on the baby and HAS ANY ONE DONE OXYCODONE WHILE PREGNANT AND HAD A HEALTHY BABY AT BIRTH???? when i go to my doctors and ultrasound appointments the doctor says that my baby looks fine and she is the size that she is supposed to be. I juss want to stop doing what i am doing to my baby girl. she does not deserve any of it. but please ladies if you could help me out!!!!!! thank you so much!!!!!! pls help me!!!!!!!!!!

I have a cousin who is smoking & as she puts it "Less then 60 mill. a day" percocet on tin foil, She is 18+ weeks pregnant. Her first month of pregnancy she was unaware of being pregnant so the usage was I believe extremely higher, She then quit cold turkey & moved away for 1 month, Came back 1 month later & slowly started back up again & convinced herself that because she's not smoking them she believes the 30 mill. percocet are not harmful to the unborn baby. However I caught her slipping & admitting on accident to smoking them. She wakes up on a mission to get high, I feel her mother to be pregnancy book is kind of a joke. My grounds for that judgement is she also don't eat. She brags to the first person walking through the door "I lost 12 pounds". My significant other believes she wants to keep her "High" so she don't eat, unsure of her motives she also smokes cigarette after cigarette, smoking more then she ever did before being pregnant. Some other things that concern me is she tinted her hair a bright extreme color, bragged about tanning on her Facebook & getting a tattoo "before she knew she was pregnant" (The Tattoo). She was bleeding heavily, to the point of concern, the doctor advised her to stop having sex, the last time she showed up at my house crying "Threatening to move to California where abortions are still legal", she admitted to having more sex w/the child's alleged father. She also pulled into a coffee shop to get a Latte & said "Idk If I should get decaf because I'm pregnant". REALLY??? She looks worse then ever. I watched a Documentary on Opiate's On The National Geographic Channel under T.V Series then Drugs.Inc. I was in tears watching a mother who was addicted to percocet 30's. I then txt her & expressed some facts & my concerns, she txt back & said "I quit a week ago, my babies' fine, I don't need to watch a documentary about it, I wasn't smoking them & was doing less then 60 mill. a day". I was happy for her then I had a flash back of the documentary & how it is not safe to quit cold turkey. Low & behold she did not quit, she's just trying to hide it more. I distant myself from her because I'm at the end of my rope & don't know what else to do, that wasn't the first time I tried talking to her about it. She's in denial & I'm worried about the baby. HELP! (Sorry for Typo's, Im tired & concerned)

I'm so proud of you for going to the dr. My sister in law was addicted to less Oxys then you and her baby died because of her addiction.
I just saw this post tonight and as I read I was panicking because if you did go into labour without telling your dr, CPS would have taken that baby from you for abusing drugs,& your husband for giving them to you. I'm a foster mom, I've seen it too often!

I will keep praying for you and the baby. Hopefully, you'll never touch the drugs again.

May I ask what your plan is to stay clean forever?

My step-sons mother was addicted to percocets thru her second pregnancy, I worked at the hospitals NICU where she was going to be delivered. Hon I not trying to scare you but I'll tell you exactly what this baby went thru. He was born addicted, suffered with pain from W/D, (muscle contractions, vomiting from his feeding tube, unable to suck normally) he stayed in the unit for 30 days. I wasn't allowed by law (HIPPA) to say anything prior to his birth to the staff, but it's just unbearable to watch. Hopefully you'll be off of them soon, and you were so smart and brave to say something to your doctor. You should be proud of that!  It's just a shame that your husband has to be on them and the temptation is right there under your nose everyday, it's not fair. Best of luck to you, & your baby. : )

Smoking oxy's is more dangerous as it enters your bloodstream quicker.  You also become addicted to the smoking part.  I hope you will get some sort of recovery care as this will help you.......sara

You are very diplomatic (and very knowledgeable) Crys833 and should be applauded for that.  Good luck to you mommy - I wish only the best for you and your baby.  :)

Well,I think it is, on a number of levels. But,really,it's all bad for us if abused. The great thing here is that you saw the doctor, she's going to watch you (did you tell her you smoked it?),and you feel good today after 48 hours without the pills. I'm happy for you and I know it took a lot of strength to go in and push to see her and tell her about this.  It's clear you want the very best for your little girl!

Keep posting and let us know how you're feeling. We all care very much!

Don't be confused. I know what we said but that's why she wants to monitor to you. She's being conservative but will handle anything as it comes up, I'm sure.  If you begin to feel anything "off", just call her.

Dr.'s orders always trump whatever is said on the forum.

UPDATE: okay so I went in to the clinic and spoke to the nurses and explained to them why I NEED to see a my doctor today, and after about half hour of waiting my doctor was able to see me. I told her about my using and she feels that i will be okay juss stopping all at once she does not want to put me on any other pill to help me get off oxy, she suggest that I just continue not to use anything But she wants to monitior me. Im confused yall said it is not safe to go cold turkey and my doctor suggest that thats what I do because I do not use that much oxy's. But isn't smoking it worse than taking it orally????? I just hope she is right... but I feel good right now I havn't smoked anything in 2 days.... i hope my daughter is okay....But that was doctors orders....

Let's not lose sight of who this is about right now. I think the only one who can safely make the call as to just what she should do is her doctor. That's cut and dry, black and white. No sense in arguing the point further. She is in her 3rd trimester and if her doctor doesn't call her back then the ER doctor should advise. Unless you're a mind reader you can't know what a doc will or won't do. Don't know this girls medical history either. In this case I'm with Domino, get to a doctor, the sooner the better. Why risk it? I'm sure the baby girl would prefer it if given a vote.

Okay Crys.  Respectfully, you're really NOT telling it like it is.  Maybe you went cold turkey off of your pills during your 3 pregnancies and,if so,I'm glad your kids are fine and had no difficulties at birth.  And,YES, I do know what I'm talking about.   Don't be offended here...it's just a learning curve.

All the best!

K, well I wasn't giving advice as a nurse, first off.  I was giving advice as a pill user.....
I'm telling it like it is, I know Dr.'s and he probably won't tell her to taper her "smoking" habit, he will tell her to just quit. From MY experience...I believe she would have mild wd's if any. But YOU seem to know more of what you are talking about so, go for it!
Mommy_2_be- Don't listen to me I don't know what I'm talking about. Do what your Dr. tells you and I hope everyting turns out well for you. Best wishes :)

I know everyone means well here but when we have a pregnant woman on the forum we have to deal with this very carefully.  Coming off any type of pills needs to be done under a doctors supervision.  Just stopping the meds no matter how much or little is still dangerous to the unborn child and this needs to be monitored.  Our goal here is to ease her fears and talk with her doctor.  He/she can then decide what the plan will be to keep both her and the baby safe.......sara

Crys~~~   You are so horribly wrong!!  I don't care if your a nurse or a proctologist!! You are wrong. Please...stop telling this girl she'll be fine going cold turky. First you said she'd have NO withdrawals. Then you said she wouldn't have BAD withdrawals. Which is it??

Either way,it's bad for the baby. She could miscarry. You seem to diminish the amount of pills she takes. She's not taking 5mg Percocet. She's taking 30 MG and smoking it!!

She's over 6 months pregnant. If she STOPS she may START having contractions.

There's "no point" in tapering???  Are you kidding me???   Please be careful here!!

Her oxy use is 6 pills in a week and on the weekends she uses 8 pills. I don't believe she would have any bad wd's. I'm not a Dr. though, so his advice would be best. Should definetly see your Dr. to find out more info about this to be safe. Heads up: Your GP probably will just tell you to stop, because your usage isn't excessive. I doubt he would give you anything or set you up on tapering. There is no point. This is something that is going to be up to you to do. You gotta make the choice in your head to say NO! Good luck, keep us posted on how you're doing :) I am nurse, if you have any questions you can private message me too!

If ur obgyn cant get u in can ur regular family dr see u? or even the er as a last resort. going ct during pregnancy as Vicki said is dangerous to the baby and you. I wonder if the er or ur family dr can help until tue? Usually drs have open slots thru the day for emergencies. Please try ur hardest 2 get seen by someone who can help medicaly. I knw how tough it is to quit and being preggers adds extra stress and pressure 2 get and stay clean but you CAN do this lil mama. Keep us posted and we are always here 4 support and advice to the best of our knowledge but 4 now PLEASE 4 the health of ur lil girl heed our advice and do WHATEVER you must 2 get immediate medical attention. Are u feeling ok? U had said ur out of pills. Do u feel any withdrawl symptoms? IMO if u are then i would go to er and b honest. Good luck to u sweetheart and stick around.

Id say if you meant what you said. You wont do it anymore. Things will work out. Its really hard not to judge pregnant mothers smoking oxys. Sorry. Make everyone here proud and just stop.

Does your doctor return phone calls?   Did you tell the clinic that you take 240mg of oxy on the weekends and 180mg during the week? And that you've stopped cold turkey because you don't have any more?  I think someone would call you back...

You need to call the clinic in the morning and tell them what is going on and hopefully they will see you tomorrow.  Going ct off meds while pregnant is not good for the baby.  Let us know how you are doing........sara
