Saw a therapist today..

Well, I saw a therapist today. He's mostly marriage and family therapy, but he has patients that are addicts. We discussed some thing that made sense to me, including my life long self esteem issues and the fact that I was self medicating all my life to cover this up. Oh well, I'm gonna go and try for a month..then I'll reassess it then. I guess that if I work and am still clean in a month, I'll keep going. Like lots of you told me, if you keep failing, then change plans. So, I'm adding this to my plan. Thanks for all the encouragement guys and gals (he said this site was very beneficial for me..so, I'll be here as much as my time allows)

I second that. You need aftercare and a plan of action when you decide to live a sober life. It is the hardest part. YOu have your plans, stick to them. We wish you all the best here.....

Im proud of ya...

Thanks you two. I gain inspiration from you both every day. I never would have taken this step if it hadn't been for you two. You don't know how much it means to hear from you two that I'm doing something positive. I didn't get that ah-ha moment I was hoping for, but he did tell me to my face a lot of things I already knew but was afraid to say. I will keep you all posted. Thanks again..I love and respect you all..

Hi Hun!

I am so happy that you went. A lot of people will tell you to go to an addiction counselor, and that is wonderful as well. However, a family counselor can help you to deal with the issues that got you to cover the pain in the first place. Know what I mean? I think you have a good shot at this. At least it is a step in the right direction.

I hope it works for you. Take care of yourself.

At least your trying in a positive manner to get clean and stay that way......you finally realize that the disease of addiction is huge and takes help to conquer the strong triggers and cravings that stop people from getting to their own recovery.......
I've watched and read your posts GG since you have been on the forum and personally think that you have come a long way........
You got into the battle and are still fighting and using some of the ideas from others who have given you some good suggestions.....
Your walking the walk not just talking the talk...........

Good for you brohamster and keep it up........
