Scared and need help

I am 24 weeks pregnant and I have been taking percocet and vicodin throughout my pregnancy. I am prescribed 2 vicodon 5/325 daily for back pain. I have been taking other medication that is not prescribed. I know I have a problem and need to quit. I can not ask for help from the doctor I don't want to be turned in to CPS. I want to talk to any other women that are in my shoes or have experienced this. I want to know if my baby is going to be born healthy.

Please don't worry.

The Vicodin won't have harmed your baby.

Relax and enjoy your pregnancy!

Take care

First of all, sorry for not being a women, but I do have quite a bit of experience in this area.

It is very very unlikely that using opiates will cause any long-term harm to your baby.  Continuing opiates is much safer than trying to withdraw.

Occasionally babies born to opiate using mothers can be a little 'light for dates' but they soon catch up. Babies born to heavy users may suffer from fetal abstinance syndrome which doesn't last too long and rarely has any long-term consequences.

2 Vicodin a day is a low dose and my guess is that any FAS would be very mild. It is reduced even further if you are breast feeding.

So I think you and the baby will be fine. You could reduce the risks further by tapering your meds a little but for your baby's sake, this can ONLY be done under a doctors supervision.

What you don't understand is that you risk being turned in for NOT being honest with your OBGYN. You also want them prepared in the event there is a problem.

Please talk to your dr. What other meds are you taking that are not prescribed? It will be worse if your not honest and your baby is born addicted. Do the right thing for your baby and you. Good luck.

You definitely NEED to talk to your doctor. What you are doing could cause your baby to have withdrawals at the time of birth...I do not think they will contact CPS if you go and tell them you need help. Do NOT stop cold turkey though as that can possibly cause more harm than good to you and the baby right now but please, please talk to your doctor immediately
