Seriously doubting my doctors...

So I went to see both my therapist & psych docs today and Updated them everything that's been going on in the month since I've seen them. One being me 4 day relapse back to vicodin. They were of course disappointed, but concerned for me. They asked how these wd's were going & I said not as bad as the first time, but still not great either. However one thing I mentioned was my lack of energy (which I know is common with this being my 2nd ct off vicodin). So my psych doc said I needed a stimulant...adderall!! I couldn't beleive it! I've never taken the stuff and have not
Heard good things about it. One being that it's addicting & you can go through wd's after stopping it. I am so confused and scared as to what to do? I think it's time for a new psychiatrist!! Does anyone agree with me or am I just freaking out over nothing? Someone please help me, I am at my wits end :(

I never ended up filling the script, just ripped it into 1,000 pieces and tossed into my fireplace lol. I have been with this office/doctor for about 5 years & up until now, I have always had faith in what he was telling me and what he was prescribing me...until now that is. And yes I am truly trying to get better, not just trying to get drugs. Today is the end of day 4 for me and aside for the lack of energy I feel pretty good.

There must be some that have said that it works... I know it did nothing for me, just gave me anxiety that went away as soon as I got rid of it. I still take my vitamins, an advil pm if I have a headache at night, otherwise, nothing.... I too think it's a dangerous path to tread, one addiction quickly becomes another addiction...

How funny, my doc gave me a script for adderall too... it just gave me anxiety... no energy gain at all, my wife threw it away. Plus I don't want to associate energy or a boost with a pill... good luck!

I completely disagree w/ Throwindatowl - doctors can and do often say "I can't help you". They've done it to me often enough!  Just randomly throwing drugs at people - even people with NO addiction problems can be considered malpractice.  Adderall is a mixture of various amphetamines (dextroamphetamine for example).  Amphetamines are not prescribed for "energy" anymore.  Haven't been for decades.  To suggest such a thing to someone withdrawing from a drug addiction is beyond ridiculous.

To me this has "quack" written all over it.  If you're really trying to get better & aren't just trying to get drugs, I'd use this as an alert that you need to find another psychiatrist.  This one doesn't know what he/she is doing.  Finding good medical practitioners can be difficult, but makes a huge difference in your quality of health care.  I hope you find a good shrink.  If you stay w/ the one you have, please research carefully anything he/she prescribes to you before filling the script, like you did this time.

Good luck!

A good start would be exercise and vitamins if you aren't already doing that.  There is no way in (you know where) I would take adderall for something like an energy problem.  Thing is....what happens if you start it and go off at some point.  SERIOUS energy problem!  It would make what you are going through right now look like a walk in the park!  Sounds like you don't want to do it anyway, so that's good.

I've not been on here a lot this last week.  Are you doing vitamins like super B complex and amino acids that are used for energy?  Maybe an energy or protein drink would help too, in addition to exercise!

Good luck!!! : )

Yes try to get out for some walks and excersize...the energy will come back and you'll feel much better.  Having seen my now 21 yr old daughter on adderal I wouldn't want to see anyone  on it. Changed her personality considerably while she was on it...

Sylvia I am glad to hear that you are going to refuse the adderal. Your energy will come back. You can help gaining energy by exercising and I have found that yoga really helped me to get energy back. Also yoga helps a great deal with your mental outlook I hope it works for you as it did for me.

As far as the doctor just giving you another script of an addictive drug the problem is that the doctors are being educated about these drugs by the reps that work for the pharma company that makes these drug which to me is very self-serving for big pharma it ALL about the money. That just my obversations and two cents---Rick

You know. Ive bashed docs in the past. Thinking the worst. Im finding it was my way of deflecting the attention off me. I was the one in the docs office. He didnt come seek me out. Im telling him I hurt. bad. Whats he suppost to do? His hands are kinda tied. Doctors prescribe meds. Usually. To help with our problems we cant handle ourselves. So Im not surprised at all that a doc would prescribe something to help. He cant tell you Im sorry but I dont have an answer. Nobody wants to  hear that. So, they dont have a choice but to keep prescribing the drugs they think will help you. Its why they are there. If you come next visit and feel better, doc got it right-the right drug. If ya dont the doc dont know anything and only wants money. Poor docs.

After doing a ton of research online, and just plain thinking about my options, I've decided to not go the adderall route. I know my energy will eventually come back, Im just looking for a quick fix! And as I've learned going through 2 wd's there is no such thing. I'm just gonna tough it out and exercise at my gym or take long walks around my block. Today is already day 3 and the nausea has subsided as well as the diarrhea so I'm praying the first 2 days were a quick reality check to my body. Thanks for everyones input. As always you guys give the best advice :) Sylvia

Hi Syliva.. Adderall is addicting.. I hope you inform your Phyc that to offer you a addicting drug is Not in your best interest and to Please put a lil more thought into what you are trying to achieve. Joining a gym our working out would be a much better alternative to the production of energy and feel good endorphins.. I wish you well. lesa

I agree. Isn't adderall for ADD or ADHD? It's suppose to have a calming effect for those who need to concentrate.  I've never heard of someone being prescibed adderall for energy. I'd personally stay clear of that 1. Good luck and let us know.

Thanks, I think I'm gonna talk to my husband first and then make a decision. I just felt like my doc just handing that script over was just kinda out of the blue & most likey a little unnecessary.

You dont have to go on Adderall if you dont want to.  It is your choice.  I personally wouldnt take it as your energy will come back on its own.  Try and give it some more time and see how you feel.......sara
