Shed some light on a newbie, xanax..

I was prescribed alpralzom or better known as Xanax 1mg 2-3 daily as needed. They were strong so I decided to only take half once a day sometimes il take the other half at dinner (rarely). Anyways i skip days here there on accident quite a bit but never missing more than 3 days. This week I've been doing little less than the half and now on day 2 after last dose I'm thinking of just stopping. Reading online I'm seeing it isn't a great idea and should taper off this drug. I was prescribed the drug may 20th something so it's been almost 3 months since I began handling this medication. I would talk to my doctor but my lifetime doc retired and honestly I just don't want to tell my new one. Not comfortable with him yet so I'm at that age where i don't want them thinking I'm just another party kid

I personally belief most doctors (except methadone docs) would be thrilled to help someone "off" meds...  Imagine all the folks trying to GET meds!!  It's best to be honest.   It's their JOB to help...

Forgot to say usually when I miss days I don't notice any withdrawal. Today Being day 2 I've had some withdrawals blurred vision twitches. Do you think I'm just noticing them now after learning about the drugs w/d? Also how would I taper half a pill once a day breaking even smaller just spills most of it and not accurate at all.
