Shot up for first time now my hand is partially paralized

I messed up big time and did something i said i would never do because im leaving for rehab in a week for a 6 year pill addiction and wanted to see what shooting oxy and dilata would feel like but now my wrist is completly limp ifmy hand is flat on the table i cant lift the ends of my fingers but i can make a fist but my grip is weak my thumb and other spots are very numb.If i put my hands together like im preying and pull them apart no matter how hard i try i cant hold my left hand up it is scarring the hell out of me, its been 2 days. I cant go to the hospital because of private reaons has anyone had this happen? will i be like this for life?

I honestly wouldn't worry about compromised circulation.  If that was the issue....your hand would most likely be discolored, from very pale, to a bluish color....especially noticeable in your nail beds.), not to mention other symptoms.

It definitely sounds like a nerve injury to me as well from what you've described.  It sounds like it is improving, although gradually?  If you've seen improvement, that is a great sign.  They will assess it in the rehab facility.  Certainly, if it gets worse all of a sudden, then get it checked before...but I think you will be just fine.

Dude I would so get it checked out because if its in anyway constricting blood flow to your hand or fingers then you have a really bad problem . I know someone that did the same thing  and she lost some of her fingers on one hand so be very careful. Just get it checked out go by yourself if you are embarrassed plus the hospital has to keep it confidential anyways.. Be safe do the best thing for yourself !!

Thank you guys yea its still limp, i ca wiggle my fingers, but not fast, and i cant lift them from the table, I leave for a lengthy rehab in a couple days, hopefully they can check it out there.

oh hun... i'm sorry to hear this.

listen - no matter what "personal reasons" are preventing you from going, it's not worth the risk of losing the use of your hand forever.

you have to go get this looked at. no matter how scared you are.

whatever "fall out" happens now is temporary.  it's possible the damage is not - i don't know.  but you stand a much better chance of healing if you find out what really happened to your hand.

go get it looked at.

and sweetheart - don't ever, ever do that again.  you are playing with very serious fire here. obviously.

please go do the right thing for yourself and get it checked out asap. you don't want to look back and regret that you didn't.

I get a treatment on my back..they put like acupuncture needles in the nerves of my lower back, and run radio waves thru the needles.It burns so severly it kills the nerves....they grow back and the pain comes back big time in about8 to 12 months.  Boy is that a bithc imagine the nerves in your back with 3rd degree burns....that is partially why I was on dilaudid.....still looking for some one who can answer questions on withdrawing from it.   Love to all    Jerri

you damaged the radial nerve or a branch of it nerves heal at 1-2 cm a month you have what is calle radial nerve palsy. The radial nerve controls all extension of the wrist and finger there are 2 other nerves that control flexion of the wrist and fingers. nerves don't always heal you need to get it looked at if you are haveing wrist drop. Get it looked at and if you are afraid to tell the truth then you can say that you had a crushing injury a few weeks ago. but you need an EMG to see the extent of the damaged nerve.

That happened to me many years ago. What happened to me was I nodded out or passed out on my hand and cut the circulation off for a long time. Normally when that happens your hand sends a message to your brain to move but when extremely loaded
the brain can't respond and the result is either temporary or permantent nerve and muscle damage. I had the same symptoms you discribed. It scared me also but what was I gonna do. So after about 4 to 6 weeks it started to get better and eventually returned to normal. Just many of the wonderful things that happen to drug addicts.

hey there,
im 15 days clean today from shooting bout 5 oxy 80's a day.....that has happened to me many times....sometimes it went away on its own....but a couple of times i had to go to the e.r. for it....those times it was an absess and they had to cut it open and drain it.....it hurts like hell. if its not an absess then it will heal but it will hurt for a bout a week. take it from sum 1 who has been there.....you dont want to go down that road!! it suxxx. good luck on gettin clean....if u set ur mind to it u can do it!!!

Unfortunately you'll always be searcing for that high, but you'll never find it again.  This is a classic natural consequence of what we do when we're addicted.  We'll go to any length!  As long as you're willing to go to any length to get and stay sober, you'll make it.  There is no one who has failed that gave complete surrender.

Ditto to what Goldenarm told you.   Nerves will heal themselves in time -  They used to think nerves would not regenerate, but that was proven wrong - it just takes time.   It could be serious but I would not let it affect my getting clean - -  I personally would say nothing that would prevent me from getting the help -  -  first things first - -- then you can learn from the dumb mistake ---  We have all made them - so just pick yourself up and get on with life --  get clean first though.
