Someone Answer This Please.

I've been addicted to pills for probably 15 years....only painkillers really. It started when I was a pro. baseball player and was a pitcher and played with alot of pain. I was taking around 30 10 mg percocet a day and finally I retired. A year ago I herniated two discs in my back and they put me on Methadone 10mg 4 x a day. 3 months ago I just quit....said I'm done, no more pills. My question is this....Withdrawals are over but I'm so depressed hardly ever leaving home. I sleep during the day and am up all night. I have no energy..no motivation to work just very pissy all the time. It literaly hurts to smile. I want to feel better but not at the expense of going to a DR to get pills of any kind. Any idea when I will be back to normal or what I can do?

I've been off methadone for 8 1/2 months.Went c/t off of it.I was feeling the same way at 3 months.I was feeling that way actually up until about a month ago.I started taking some of the aminos mentioned above, and I have noticed marked improvement in my mood. The 5htp has worked wonders for me.I highly suggest you try it.All the best...Kim

Thanks...I'll try that. I've never had a Anti-Depressant work. But I refuse, no matter how painful, to Start taking painkillers again. I'll never go through that again, what was I thinking? I take that back..... I recently woke up with the right side of my face paralyzed, thought I had a stroke in my sleep, but it was Bells Palsey. Had the worst headache the week leading up and after 3 weeks its just starting to go away...but anyway the ER DR gave me percocet 10 mg and I took only 1 and my headache went away. I ended up taking about 6 of them and flushed the rest. Quite proud of myself for that. Thanks Again!

the lack of energy and motivation after quitting was almost enuf to do me in..at 2 months clean i was melting into the couch and felt like i had no life..i had to do a rocket shot to get out of the door for work each morning...i knew i had to do something...i hit the aminos hard..tyrosine is like instant energy and gets ur dopamine pumping again..phenylalnine too,,,5htp each night for depression and i went to the gym everytime i felt like i was sinking into the doomers to stimulate my recptors..all i can say is it worked for me or i woulda relapsed totally...by 3 months i was living again

First off, with addicts, normal is a dryer setting....As for the depression, you may want to see a psychiatrist and try to see if there is an underlying problem but be sure to tell him you are a recovering addict.  Have you ever tried NA or AA meetings?  Some people don't like them, I for one do.  You need to get active, find a hobby, something to keep you from lying around and mourning the loss of your friend and lover (the pills).  Keep your chin up!!

My husband just stopped taking painkillers too and he apears very depressed also. I think an antidepressant med is a good idea. Non- narcotic with no addiction potentail and very needed. I know they are still pills but you don't get high off them. If you stay depressed you'll be more likely to go back to taking painkillers. Your brain is trying to make you feel miserable in order to get the pills back.
