Something that has been confusing me.

Since I've been coming on here lately theres been something that I have been wondering. The last time I detoxed I was taking about 30-40 lortab 10's a day, and that was over a few years period of time. Any time I would run out (before going to re-hab) I would have all the usual symptoms of withdrawal. This last time I quit was soon as I found out I was pregnant (at 1 month of pregnancy) and for some reason I didn't have basically any withdrawal. I was in a state run detox place that didn't give any meds to anyone detoxing, let alone myself since I was pregnant. But after day two and I still wasn't feeling sick I was confused. I mean I was a little uncomfortable....goosebumps, the runs, yawning, but that was about it. Normally I would be shaking and all the other good stuff. I went to the nurse and asked why I wasn't sick, and she said that sometimes the hormones from pregnancy protect the mother and baby from the withdrawal symptoms. I figured it was best to stop questioning it and just be damn thankful I was doing so well with it. But now that I've been coming on the forum i keep coming across posts from women who are pregnant and getting off pills, and they are experiencing just as much withdrawal as anyone else. So was this nurse telling me the truth or what? I also remember the first time I went to re-hab, my withdrawal wasn't so bad (they were only giving me phenobarbutal (can't spell), and clonidine. But whenever I have to go c/t at home it's horrible. Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else. thanks

wow thats incredible! It was my first pregnancy too. I wonder why that happened? What are the other factors that could cause a worser withdrawal then others though (as you mentioned)?

I've heard of this. You woman are lucky, pregnancy must be a fascinating thing to experience (no, really, not being sarcastic! :)  )

It's not the kind of thing you can count on happening (although if I could get pregnant, I'd be sorely tempted!) but it does. There's a lot of factors that can cause a nasty withdrawal as opposed to none.

Here's an even stranger thing, I've heard this happens only with a first pregnancy. For some reason, it tends not to happen after the initial one. I think I understand that to, but I can't begin to explain it!!!

i have no idea, but is a good question..i have only detoxed once and last only 3 days..It was terrible..Then again for a couple days from running out and it wasn't that bad..Taking the same amount both times...now that i am weaning, and have been for months , i have had a long tough time..i don't know what makes the difference from each time?
i wish i knew what it was because i would do just about anything to not feel those feelings..EXCEPT getting pregnant...LOL 4 children is enough..
