Stopping Soma Cold Turkey PLEASE ADVISE!!!

My husband has been on soma 350mg for 4 years.  He takes 4 tablets daily.  He has run out early for the first time ever and I am concerned that this could effect him poorly.  He took his last two tablets at 6am this morning and does not see his doctor until Thursday at 9am.  Should I be worried about any side effects from him stopping suddenly?  He also takes zanax 1.5mg daily, but he is not out of that.

PLEASE ADVISE!!!

Yep, I call myself the SOmaQueen"  never had withdrawal and I won't get into how many I took and how many times I woke up with my face in my dinner.....lol.  not going there, but I will tell you from my experience......no withdawal (physical) mostly mental.  He may feel listless for a week or so, but as GeorGiaGuY says.....he shouldn't be taking xanax and soma together......Thats a cocktail for disaster.......

He should be fine.  probably not a happy camper for a while, so try to understand that. I got really btchy when I didnt' have my soma.  I hate that **** !!!

I wish you well......

luv,
Nauty.......

I had taken soma for 12 years before I had quit them. the most I believe he may experience is muscles spasms maybe sour burning stomach headache.. a feeling of restlessness.. I agree with the above posters though that if he ran out early and is taking two.. he is no longer taking for the relief of spasms but for the effect.. Nip this in the bud and speak with his Dr. I wish you both well. lesa

And, by the way, it's doubly dangerous to be taking it with Xanax. Xanax is probably the easiest frequently prescribed benzo. He's taking a muscle relaxer and a benzo. That can be dangerous long term. the best option would be switched to a muscle relaxer that's less easy to abuse such as Baclofen or Zanaflex.

I have never heard of anyone having seizures while coming off of Soma but please watch him with the Xanax. Withdrawal from them CAN cause seizures.

Running out early is a classic sign of addiction. However, this could be just an anomaly this time. You say he's watching your son? Be watchful for fatigue, or sleeping a lot. Soma is a muscle relaxer that's often abused by adding it to other drugs (of which I'm not going to go in to). People can and do get hooked on it by itself, though.

THank you so much for your responses. My husband fractured his back in a car accident and has titanium rods in his back.  I informed him that I was concerned that he ran out early and he basically told me to back off, that he never has before and it is only two days and not a big deal.  I just don't want him having a seizure or something!  He watches our son and this majes me nervous.

This is really something he should discuss with his doctor. Even though Soma is very addictive, it's only seen rarely on this site and advice would be a guess at best. Please, call your doctor and ask.

Hi & Welcome,

There is a lot of controversay regarding Soma and addiction. I would say if he is taking 4 per day and has run out early, then he is dependent on them. They are not classified as a narcotic so he will not suffer any physical withdrawal but he may have mental withdrawal which can be just as bad.

This may be a good time to discuss with him his actual need to take 4 per day.
