Suboxone Hair Loss?

I have found related posts and questions but no real precise answers or experiences but my question is - has anyone had a confirmed causal relationship between hair loss and suboxone? My hair is thinning evenly throughout my entire scalp. I have seen posts of it might be your thyroid, it might be.. Does anyone have the experience of a diagnosis? Has anyone  experienced hair regrowth upon fixing a thyroid, hormonal problem, etc. Has anyone  experienced hair regrowth upon stopping suboxone? All responses are appreciated.

To update. I'm on .5 mg. Originally, I attempted to jump off two years back. I withdrawals for thirty days, got back on at 8 mg. About a month later my hair turned REALLY frizzy, the same friz it is now and began falling out evenly across my head. Even on  the sides. Eyebrow hair was falling out too. I've since cut to .5 mg over the last two years. Much of  this thread got misconstrued about personal experience and struggles. I'm not hear to share struggles. Anyone have any luck with regrowth or can elaborate? Where's the frizziness coming from? You know when your sick and your "hair hurts"? It's like that. It's stiff. If I tried to pull my hair back in a pony tail, it feels like I'm going against the grain. It seems less frizzy at night. I don't know if that's dehydration possibly? But over the years, I've had many bouts with overhydrating to combat the possibility a nd nothing resolved the frizzyness or the thinning. Still thin across the board, now its receding hair line on left side. I know that's what allopecia is but I'm 30, I look sixteen, my hair was soft, and like thick beyond belief and hair loss doesn't run in my family. Either side. I have no doubt its the suboxone. I know my body. The question is... will it come back after jumping off? Will a smaller dose (I've been on .5 for about a week now. Before that, 1/3 for two months) allow the body processes to continue to cause hair grow again? Nothing where it fell out from just yet. Still frizzy. Anyone help?

Now that you say that, yes I have noticed a lot more hair loss than usual! I have a lot of hair, but am shocked at all of the hair that I lose, especially in the shower! I have been on Suboxone for 2 years. I've always shed a lot of hair, but not I shed double if not more!

Silky smooth.. Shampoo is better! No, conditioner is better! Is that your picture or  your  woman's pic highballer?  Thanks for  the reply. I've been  on suboxone for three years now. Before  that  2 years on heroin. Before that 3  years on pills  oxy, fetynol, etc. Suboxone gave  me a normal life back .  I just completed law  school  for  ***** sakes. My  own  opinion  is  that  I'm a  functional addict. I feel  I would  have  the  same normal  life if I could have  continual  supply  of  pills as  well.  But to  clarify,  you are still on suboxone?  Was the  suboxone the cause of  your  thyroid  problem? I  don't  want to get off the suboxone  and  risk losing everything I have re-gained  and  worked for but  I would just die if I lost  my hair.

When I first read your question, I was skeptical. I have taken Suboxone too and never lost my hair. Of course, I have a lot of it and wouldnt notice!

I looked online at many websites, some written by docs and some just regular people. I think I can confidently say yes, there is research out there indicating some people can experience hair loss while taking Suboxone and/or any opiates!

Never woulda believed it had I not read it! Type your question in your browser and you'll see how many websites come up with people saying they lost hair on Suboxone! I still think its a great alternative to quitting opioid abuse!

I definitely had hair loss, my famy pointed it out. That also noticed it coming back after detox. I should look in the mirror more. Nutrition has played a major role in my overall improvement, physical and mental. I think most of us are malnourished.

Yes, I had hair loss.!  It REALLY seemed to increase once off ALL opiates and I was only on subs for 28 days.  It seemed most apparent in my first 90 days clean.  It stopped....as I healed.

Our entire central nervous systems and immune systems are healing and re-adjusting once we stop putting the chemicals in.  I didn't see a dr. about many of my w/drawal symptoms....hair loss, vision changes, on and on.  Seemed prudent to me to "wait and see".....and I was so glad I did.

While it COULD be the Sub, you don't want to make any assumptions.  It's always best to see your doctor for a thorough assessment, to rule out a possible medical cause.

How long have you been off the Subs?  How are you doing off the Subs?  Coping okay?  Do you go to meetings, or any kind of addiction counseling?

Hey there! I just want to back up my buddy selfinduced, here. I too, experienced hair loss (on Methadone) & then later during detox. I believe it to be stress-related. Our metabolisms really take a beating during our use & then in detox. It also affected my skin. Stress is inimical to every system in our bodies. Vitamins & unprocessed foods are definitely a good idea. (I also think it has to do with how old you are.)

Hi bdylan, I was an opiate pill girl (not suboxone), but YES, YES, HE-- YES on the hair thinning and breaking off. I attributed it to the lack of vitamin absorption during my years of use. Three months post pill detox it grew back like magic. Not only my hair but nails, skin brightened and uhhh sex drive returned. I doubled up on vitamin "D" and I think that too helped. These pills rob our physical selves more than we realize.I know this wasn't your question, but hope it helps a bit.

You really should go and see your doctor. There are just too many things that can possibly be causing your hair loss to name. Hormone issues such as thyroid problems and other hormone imbalances would probably be the most common. If your doctor checks your thyroid it is a very simple blood test checking your TSH. I hope that you get this all figured out. Good luck to you!!

AND YES AS SOON AS I SWITCHED TO ORGANIC SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER, VITAMINS, MINERALS AND HAD THYROID FIXED, AND MY HAIR IS NOW SILKY SMOOTH, I WOULD SUGGEST COCONUT OIL!

THATS ONE SIDE EFFECT I HAVE NOT HAD, THANK GOODNESS, AS MY THYROID IS BAD ENOUGH, BUT I WOULDN'T BE SURPRISED AS THE LEAFLET IS SICKENING WITH 100 ADVERSE REACTIONS OR SIDE EFFECTS! LET ME CHECK, OH GOOD GOD, THERE ARE MORE THAN 100 AS I DIDNT CHECK PARAGRAPH UNDERNEATH. IT SAYS "HAIR DISORDER" BUT HONESTLY 100% IT IS THE THYROID I THINK?
