Suboxone contains a med that has been used in hospitals for years for pain. I took it for pain after surgery that I had while in treatment in Atlanta, GA, and it worked well for me. I only took it for a short time though. Methadone is widely used for pain.
Methadone is commonly prescribed for pain, but usually by a pain management specialist. Years ago when I was having trouble with my neck/back, I was prescribed a low dose of methadone along with hydrocodone by my PCP and it was quite effective. Suboxone is only indicated for treatment of opiate addiction, but the active ingredient buprenorphine has been used for pain for years. It is usually used in a very low dose injectible formula, I also think think it was used in pill form called Talwin - not certain about that one though. I have heard of pain management docs using suboxone off label for pain with patients who are already opiate dependent. If you are using either medication and are still in pain, talk with your doctor about options that you may have.
I've heard methadone was but it got reclassified. Heard it from another member in here as he was taken off of that and now is battling the oxycontin 80's which was given in substitute. He said he would prefer to be on the methadone and also pointed out that they came in wafers which could be broken to adjust doses..Not sure about the suboxone as far as a specified pain killer...
