Suboxone Question - Please help - need advice - tired of reading and searching

Been using an average of 100 mg of hydrocodone a day. WANT to quit (really). Quit once before, CT from oxy & methadone, but it took going to rehab for a year. I was clean for FOUR years until about 6 months ago. Made a bad decision and don't want to go through the same sh*t I've been through in the past. In other words I don't want this 100 mg hydrocodone habit to turn into shooting up oxys. I've tried to wein but don't have the will power and can't seem to make it through the withdrawls (just like before). SOOOOO.... my psych recommended suboxone. I go see him tomorrow. I need to make a decision but don't want to make ANOTHER wrong one. PLEASE if you have experience help me make an informed decision. Everything I read about it is controversial. HELP. I'm in college, work full time, engaged, and no one knows. I don't want them to. I want this to end quick. I think having to disappoint everyone again would only lead me further into addiction. THATS NOT WHERE I WANT TO B! I have too much going for me this time. I've worked so hard to get back to this point. Can suboxone help me not lose it all or is it going to make it worse???? Is there a right way to use it that will help????

HI if you use sub in conjunction with aftercare to work on you wile your addiction is on hold sub is a good thing if all your going to do is take sub without aftercare your just switching addictions for one thats worst then you got many of our members have been helped by sub but its the ones that work a program..... taking sub and sitting in front of the tv is going to get you no where as addicts we need to change the very way we think and reason so become proactive in your recovery work a program and sub will help you most stay on it around 90 days with work you can straiten out your life good enough to stand on your own 2 feet ......I did want to add sub is no way to avoid withdrawals its a crap shoot you will ether come off ez at like 2mg or take it down to crumbs and suffer for 3 weeks you never Know with this drug how your going to come off it we have had both good and bad experience among our members good luck and God bless.....Gnarly

I have had six back surgeries, four of which have been fusions. After surgery number five I tried Suboxone to help get off Oxycontin. I was on Suboxone for a year and it was impossible to quit. Every time I'd reduce the Suboxone dosage I'd have violent withdrawals. My legs involuntarily kicked. My skin felt like it was crawling. I sweat like a pig. I would feel hot-cold flashes all day long. I could not sleep. I simply can't recommend this as the answer. The only thing that saved me was one of the screws in my back broke and the fusion failed so I was put on fentanyl patches and oxycodone to manage the pain, so I no longer needed the Suboxone. Good luck.

Oh say you are on it already. Sounds like you have a good dr and that's what matters. Good luck and stay on aftercare

There is no easy way out if that's what you're trying to do. We all want that! You're switching one drug for another.

Started my sub today. I have a great Dr. (Psych) who is working with me on it. He is understanding and NOT a pill pusher kind of Dr. at all. He is only giving me a wk. script at a time. He gave me 8mg to take twice daily but told me to see if I could handle only taking a 1/2 twice daily - if not I could take the whole. I started with a half - 5 hours later I took the other half. We'll see how tomorrow goes but this is day one of the sub and I'm doing good. I really do want to quit...really. I have A LOT going for me right now but it would be easy to screw it all up.  Wish me luck and preserverance. I will keep in touch with the community.

Hey, my ex was on methadome for over 5 years very slowly cutting down, when it was time to stop he freaked out completely and had to up his dose again, just like you doc suggested suboxone as he said its easier to get off, he was also taking a brick or 2 of xanax a day and still using. He desided to jump on the suboxone and do a rapid drop, this was over a 4 week period, he starred on a high dose, dropped all the other drugs and the doc reduced him every 2 days, 4 weeks later he was off everything, took a lot of will power and determination but believe me if he can do it you can do it, he has been drug free for nearly 3 years :) hope this helped a lil

U spent a year2get off before.I'm gonna guess most of that is from the methadone taper.I don't have experience w/subs but everything I read they r just another addiction,take4ever2come off of like the meth.U would benefit from getting off the oxy w/o the sub.Maybe meds2help w/d.I took clonidine+benzo for w/d of100-150mg of hydrocodone a day.It's a much shorter w/d period(like3-7days the physical w/d is over).U need2look n2after care if u haven't already
